Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios wasn’t impressed when he came face to face with Kate Middleton at Wimbledon in 2022. The fiery tennis pro lost his title to Novak Djokovic in four sets that year. Shortly after, he was faced with the Princess of Wales on the court.
The sporting star has discussed his memories of the Grand Slam before a live audience in London on Tuesday.
It was here he revealed what he thought about the royal…

Nick Kyrgios’reaction to Kate Middleton at Wimbledon
Krygios revealed that he thinks about that loss every day. He was only more infuriated when Kate offered her words of reassurance at the time.
The Princess of Wales allegedly praised: “Great work, well played,” following his loss, as they met on centre court during the trophy presentation.
Unfortunately, Kyrgios didn’t receive her words of encouragement graciously and admitted he thought to himself: “What would you know?”
Kyrgios’ day was also marked with controversy as he famously told the umpire to remove a fan he accused of having 700 drinks.
Despite his negative thoughts about Kate in the moment, it seems Kyrgios is a fan of the royal.

Nick Kyrgios offers to coach Princess Kate
Kyrgios worked as a colour commentator for the BBC during the men’s singles final between Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz when he gushed over Kate’s appearance in the Royal Box in 2024, following her step away from the limelight due to her cancer diagnosis earlier that year.
It was here that he even offered to coach the royal.
He joked whilst on BBC Sport: “Maybe I’m a little bit too volatile… but look, I’ve got a lot of time on my hands at the moment so I’m happy to coach [Kate Middleton].”
He then added: “It’ll be more fun being coached by me than it would by [Roger] Federer!”
What happened to Kate at Wimbledon?
Last year, Princess Kate wowed Wimbledon fans with her stunning appearance at the men’s singles where she wore a striking purple dress and received a gushing standing ovation due to her attendance.
At the time, it had only been the royal’s second public appearance that year, and just months earlier, she had shared her shock cancer diagnosis.

The Princess of Wales later stepped onto the court and presented Carlos Alcaraz with the winning trophy after his victory against Novak Djokovic.
Kate, as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, is very fond of Wimbledon.
She told Sue Barker on a 2017 BBC documentary: “I have watched Wimbledon, that was very much part of my growing up. It’s such a quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters, myself.
“It inspired me when I was younger to get involved in the game. It hasn’t changed either, I think that’s what’s so wonderful.”
Kate is expected to attend Wimbledon sometime in the next few weeks. The famed championships kick off on Monday, June 30.
