MID NORTH COAST, Australia (WKRC) – A woman died and a man was hospitalized after a shark attack on Thursday in Australia.

Emergency services were called to a beach at Crowdy Bay around 6:30 a.m. after reports of two people had been bitten by a nine-foot bull shark, according to New South Wales (NSW) police.

A witness helped the pair before paramedics arrived, but the woman, believed to be 25, died at the scene.

The man, 26, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, where he remained in serious but stable condition. Police said the two were believed to be visiting from Switzerland.

PEOPLE identified the woman as Livia Muhlheim and the man as her boyfriend, Lukas Schindler. Muhlheim had been using a GoPro to record dolphins moments before she was attacked, and Schindler tried to fight off the shark, the outlet reported.
