HBO Max’s The Pitt has become more than just a hit TV show — it’s a phenomenon. Since its premiere, the medical drama has garnered near-universal praise, not just from fans and critics, but also from actual medical professionals, who are astonished by the authenticity of what they’re seeing on screen.
Season 2, which unfolds over a single 15-hour shift during the chaos of the 4th of July weekend, has pushed the show to even higher heights. While every character brings intensity and realism, one in particular has left real-life doctors openly applauding: Katherine LaNasa’s Dana Evans.
Dr. David Shapiro, a practicing surgeon, recently told Screen Rant that Dana represents the most accurate depiction of a “seasoned ER nurse” he has ever seen across all media. He gushed, saying that LaNasa’s performance captures the exact professionalism, urgency, and human empathy of nurses working in high-pressure trauma wards. “She’s amazing and should be winning every possible award,” Shapiro said. “If anyone argues otherwise, tell them I said, ‘Go pound sand.’ This is exactly how the real world works.”
And awards have followed. LaNasa won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, while co-star Noah Wyle earned Outstanding Lead Actor, and the series itself secured the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. Additionally, LaNasa was honored with a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. The recognition reflects the show’s extraordinary attention to detail, nuanced writing, and intensely authentic performances.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt immerses viewers in the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, delivering every season as a tightly wound, hour-by-hour shift that keeps both characters and audiences on edge. Alongside LaNasa and Wyle, the ensemble cast includes Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi, all contributing to the show’s gripping realism.
Critics have been equally impressed. Season 1 scored a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Season 2 went even further, earning a near-perfect 99%. With its early renewal for Season 3 already announced, fans can rest assured that the intensity isn’t slowing down anytime soon.![]()
From high-stakes trauma cases to emotionally charged character moments, The Pitt has captivated audiences by offering a brutally honest, heart-pounding look at hospital life. And with performances like LaNasa’s Dana Evans, the series proves that television can be as truthful, raw, and gripping as life itself.
