New bombshell Harry and Meghan claim over phone calls to late Queen
The late Queen was “not please” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over an incident, new book claims.

Queen Elizabeth II allegedly told staff to “ignore” phone calls from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle amid a “tiaragate” incident described in a new bombshell royal book. The row between the two sides allegedly occurred after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex asked for Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara to be sent to them to “practice” with before their 2018 wedding.

But the late Queen is said to have taken on her personal dresser, Angela Kelly’s side. In his new book, Elizabeth II, royal biographer Robert Hardman claims the late Queen was “not pleased” that her grandson had allegedly been “calling around the Royal Household demanding that the tiara be dispatched forthwith”
Mr Hardman writes in his new book, which has been serialised online by the Daily Mail: “The mood turned sour nearer the wedding when the couple rang the palace to ask the Queen’s dresser and curator, Angela Kelly, to send over the tiara. Meghan wished to practise putting it on.”

“As the monarch told one of them [the Royal Household staff]: ‘It’s not a toy.’ She even recalled that, ahead of the 2011 royal wedding, Catherine Middleton’s hairdresser had practised using a plastic tiara from the accessory chain, Claire’s.
“Why could Meghan and her hairdresser not do the same? She told Kelly to ignore the phone calls.”
The author alleges that the tiara was not to be handed “at the click of a finger to suit a visiting hairdresser”.
He writes: “Every centrepiece of a royal wedding is subject to forensic global scrutiny. Even if the tiara had only a few offcuts from South Africa’s mighty Cullinan diamond, that could be enough to generate furious headlines about colonial theft.”
One member of staff allegedly asked: “Can you imagine how that would have gone down on the wedding day?”
Prince Harry did confirm a row with Ms Kelly in his bombshell memoir, Spare, which was released in 2023.

He claimed: “She [Ms Kelly] was being obstructive … To my mind, Angela was a troublemaker and I didn’t need her as an enemy”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not commented on the new claims.
