EXCLUSIVE: 28 Years After Her D.ea/th, Princess Diana’s Secret Diary FINALLY Revealed, and It’s SH0CKING

Review: Princes William and Harry's Guarded Confessions in “Diana, Our Mother” | The New Yorker

Prince William, the Prince of Wales, is next in line to the throne after his father, King Charles. From an early age, William was prepared for his destiny as future monarch. But according to one royal commentator, the late Princess Diana once believed her younger son, Prince Harry, might actually have been better suited for the crown.

Diana’s “Good King Harry”

Royal commentator Charles Rae, speaking to Slingo, revealed that Diana gave Harry a special nickname: “GKH” — Good King Harry.

“She thought he would have been better equipped for the role as a future king,” Rae explained. Beyond a playful moniker, it was also Diana’s way of making Harry feel unique and valued within the family.

As for William, both Diana and Charles had their own affectionate nickname for him: “Wombat”, which he was reportedly called when he was very young.

Could Harry Ever Become King?

Although Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals in 2020 — losing their HRH titles in an official capacity — Harry still remains in the royal line of succession.

Currently, the Duke of Sussex is fifth in line to the throne, behind Prince William and William’s three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

This means Harry would only become king if William and his three children abdicated or were otherwise removed from the line of succession. In such a rare scenario, Meghan Markle would become queen consort.

The Future of the Throne

As it stands, the crown will pass from King Charles to Prince William, then to Prince George, followed by his siblings Charlotte and Louis. As George grows older and has children of his own, the line will continue to evolve, pushing Harry further down the succession path.

While Princess Diana’s affectionate nickname captured her belief that Harry had qualities of a strong king, the throne’s future remains firmly aligned with William and his children.
