Donald Trump’s Awkward Move With Princess Kate Goes Viral
Donald Trump was criticized on social media for tucking in Princess Kate’s chair during a State Banquet at Windsor Castle.
The U.S. President was sat with King Charles III on his left and Kate on his right after she processed in with Michael Boulos, Trump’s son-in-law.
As Kate sat down, there was a man behind ready to tuck in her chair but Trump also leaned over to help.

Why It Matters
Some on social media felt the move was overstepping the mark in his interaction with Britain’s next queen.
A clip went viral on X after it was viewed 217k times and liked 685 times having been posted with the message: “Ew, don’t touch her chair.”
What to Know
By coincidence, it came 13 years to the day after Trump commented on X about Kate being photographed sunbathing topless by a paparazzo who used a long lens aimed over a wall from a nearby hill as she holidayed at a French chateau.
“Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing,” Trump wrote on September 17, 2012. “Come on Kate!”
Yesterday’s State Banquet came at the end of a long day at Windsor Castle, starting when he touched down in Marine One just after midday.
There was an official welcome outdoors, a private carriage procession around the Windsor Estate (which the public were kept away from) and the President and First Lady had a chance to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at her tomb in St George’s Chapel.
The State Banquet was a moment when the fashion stakes were raised and Kate looked glamorous in a Phillipa Lepley silk gown under a full-lenth, hand-embroidered gold Chantilly lace evening coat paired with The Lover’s Knot Tiara.
In addition to the moment with Kate’s chair, one particular photo of her with the President sparked comments online and it showed Trump leaning slightly towards the princess as they made eye contact.
Kate’s position next to Trump matched the seating plan for Emmanuel Macron’s state visit in July, at which she was also sat next to the French President.
What People Are Saying
In his speech at the banquet, Donald Trump said: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. Really amazing. I’ve gotten to know you and you will have unbelievable success in the future.
“Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness Princess Catherine, so radiant and so healthy, so beautiful. It’s really a great honour, thank you.”
One comment on X said Kate “doesn’t look happy to be there, playing the role of the pretty doll for Trump’s delight.”
What Happens Next
Donald Trump has left Windsor for a meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at Chequers where trade and Ukraine will likely be on the agenda.
Melania Trump has initially stayed behind in Windsor where she and Kate will meet Scout leaders together.
