Buckingham Palace has assigned a new role to King Charles’s uncle after a request was sent via official channel.

As senior members of the royal family continue their official summer break, the Duke of Gloucester received a special honour with regards to his patronage.

Prince Richard, 80, has been named new patron of The Cinnamon Trust, which focuses on supporting the elderly and their pets.

Royal patronages are chosen by members of the royal family which aligns with their own interests. However, requests by organisations are processed by the Private Secretary, who then forwards them to the relevant royal for consideration.

The Duke of Gloucester accepted the patronage after a visit to the charity in July, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year

“We’re honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester as our first Royal Patron, Patrick Williams, the Trust’s CEO said.

“His acceptance marks a significant milestone for The Cinnamon Trust, recognising the compassion and dedication that has shaped our work over the past 40 years.”

He continued, “We’re confident that His Royal Highness’s Patronage will help us extend our reach and support even more people and their beloved companions.”

The Cinnamon Trust, which was founded in 1985, aims to provide support to older people living with terminal illness and cannot afford to keep their beloved pets due to various reasons.
