With The Umbrella Academy approaching its highly anticipated ending, several minor characters deserve to return in season 4. The Umbrella Academy season 4 is due to air in August 2024. It will be the final installment of the series and the end of the Netflix adaptation of the graphic novels of the same name, by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The Umbrella Academy’s season 3 cliffhanger ending set up an array of dramatic possibilities for the show’s final season, leaving the fate of its characters hanging in the balance.
Most of The Umbrella Academy’s season 3 characters are due to return to the show, including the Hargreeves family: Viktor (Elliot Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castañeda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Five (Aidan Gallagher), Ben (Justin H. Min), and their adopted father Reginald (Colm Feore). The Umbrella Academy’s main characters jump across various timelines and universes, but their fates aren’t safe without the help of the supporting characters. The Umbrella Academy has plenty of unique supporting characters, and some will hopefully be remembered in season 4, receiving the closure they deserve.

The Umbrella Academy Official Trailer (Trailer)
7Herb
Portrayed By: Ken Hall
Herb (Ken Hall) is one of the most underrated characters in The Umbrella Academy and is best known for providing some hilarious and sly lines of dialogue to the show. During the New Apocalypse, Number Five discovers that the Kugelblitz has sucked up Herb while the timeline collapses around him, seemingly meeting his end. However, Herb is later seen in a flashback during the season 3 episode “Auf Wiedersehen,” helping Lila (Ritu Arya) in 1989 Berlin. Throughout the show, Ken has a strong relationship with Five, which provides some great moments in the show.
The hunt for the truth about Lila’s parents in The Umbrella Academy is a highly anticipated storyline in which Herb plays a significant part.
The hunt for the truth about Lila’s parents in The Umbrella Academy is a highly anticipated storyline in which Herb plays a significant part. Herb knew some critical details about this mystery, and season 4 must explain whether he shared this information with Lila and, if he didn’t, what repercussions he may face. Herb also took over as the leader of the Commission after the Handler’s (Kate Walsh) demise, so it will be interesting to see how he runs the organization now, especially after forming a resistance group against her.
6Grace Hargreeves
Portrayed By: Jordan Claire Robbins
The robotic nanny and substitute mother to the Hargreeves, Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins), has a solid relationship with each of her “children” throughout the show. Unfortunately, when the house collapses, Grace is assumingly destroyed with it. Despite Klaus and Diego’s best efforts, they couldn’t find her remains. However, audiences know this doesn’t mean Grace is gone for good. Even if she isn’t reformed or repaired, elements of Grace’s past will hopefully be revisited in The Umbrella Academy season 4. For example, Reginald bases Grace’s design on the likeness of his 1960s partner so that they can live an idyllic life.
Before her death, Grace tells Diego to “remember” in a rather eerie moment, possibly setting up a storyline in season 4 for her return and revealing more details about her past and relationship with the Hargreeves patriarch.
5Dolores
Portrayed By: Rachel Delduca
Dolores is a mannequin that Five frequently refers to as his “partner,” who resides with him during the post-apocalyptic future. Despite being an inanimate object, she does come to life in the season 3 episode “Meet the Family” in a hallucination. In these scenes, actress Rachel Delduca portrays Dolores. Although she doesn’t speak, Dolores is a fascinating character because she gives audiences a better understanding of Five’s delicate state of mind. Even though he knows she isn’t real, Five takes comfort in Dolores’ companionship and, at one point, tells Klaus that they’re “really hitting it off.”
Even if Dolores isn’t essential to the storyline, audiences are keen to know what happens to the mannequin after her time with Five.
Five eventually returns Dolores to the department store, where he first found her, and says his goodbyes, proving their relationship’s strength. However, this unusual moment also suggests that there is more to Dolores than meets the eye. Although Five did this because he genuinely cares about the dummy, there is a chance that Dolores may play a bigger part in the future of The Umbrella Academy than anticipated, but it’s unclear as to what. Even if Dolores isn’t essential to the storyline, audiences are keen to know what happens to the mannequin after her time with Five.
4Axel
Portrayed By: Kris Holden-Ried
Axel (Kris Holden) is a member of “The Swedes,” responsible for some of the most significant deaths in The Umbrella Academy, including the Handler. However, by season 3, Axel is the only “Swede” survivor and partly responsible for his brother Otto’s (Jason Bryden) death due to Allison’s manipulation. Axel’s last appearance in season 2 sees him boarding a bus belonging to the Destiny’s Children cult, leaving the Hargreeves behind on relatively good terms after killing the Handler, the true culprit behind his siblings’ demise. Although his storyline seems over, there is still some mystery surrounding Axel.
Axel seemingly joins Klaus’ cult yet is absent from season 3, so audiences are theorizing where the character may have been during this time.
An alternate timeline launches following Axel’s last appearance in the show, sparking questions about his fate. Axel seemingly joins Klaus’ cult yet is absent from season 3, so audiences are theorizing where the character may have been during this time. Axel’s actions suggest that he has a plan up his sleeve, mainly because he is joining forces with Destiny’s Children, although what he may be plotting is unclear. Due to the time-traveling storylines, there’s a chance that his brothers may have somehow survived, and perhaps all of “The Swedes” will make a dramatic return to the show in season 4.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Footage Brings The Hargreeves Siblings Together For One Last Time
3Dot
Portrayed By: Patrice Goodman
Dot (Patrice Goodman) is one of the Commission’s employees and a close confidant of Herb in The Umbrella Academy. While Five works for the organization, Dot is stationed behind the main desk of the Commission and later plays a big part in the Handler’s downfall. However, Dot’s most important role is helping the Academy by granting them their request to use a briefcase, cementing their return to their own time. Despite how he treats her, Dot idealizes Five, who believes she is why he has to spend 45 years in the past, even though it is out of her control.
Dot is another character whose backstory has yet to receive enough attention.
However, Justin H. Min has stated that The Umbrella Academy’s season 4 ending “will be a wild ride,” and there is no doubt that the Commission will be heavily involved in this. Dot is another character whose backstory has yet to receive enough attention. Although she appears sweet and innocent, plenty of other characters in the show aren’t as loyal as they seem. Perhaps Dot’s dedication to Five will finally falter, especially as she is in charge of the file on the apocalypse, and her sudden change in loyalty is motivated by something audiences haven’t discovered yet.
2Jill
Portrayed By: Mouna Traoré
Jill (Mouna Traoré) is a member of Destiny’s Children and, for a while, holds Ben’s affection. Jill is a brilliantly intelligent young woman who makes unusual decisions, such as turning down an Albright scholarship to Berkeley to join the cult, and follows Klaus around the world in their bus. Despite this, she has a bubbly and endearing personality and is keen to jump into whatever situation she faces. Jill is very dedicated to Klaus and his teachings, which makes things difficult for Ben, who is in awe of her, whereas Klaus initially doesn’t pay any attention to her.
With Axel joining the cult in his last appearance, it looks pretty likely that Destiny’s Children will be involved in The Umbrella Academy season 4 somehow.
Jill isn’t seen on-screen after the season 2 episode “Öga for Öga.” However, with Axel joining the cult in his last appearance, it looks pretty likely that Destiny’s Children will be involved in The Umbrella Academy season 4 somehow. Hopefully, audiences will get some closure on Ben and Jill’s romance or at least see Klaus finally paying his loyal follower some much-needed attention. It’ll be interesting to see whether Jill ever finds out that the affair she has with Klaus is actually Ben possessing his body and if this impacts her dedication to her leader and the Destiny’s Children cult.
1Sissy Cooper
Portryed By: Marin Ireland
In season 2, Viktor goes back in time to 1963 and meets Sissy Cooper (Marin Ireland) after the Texas mother hits him with her car. Due to Viktor’s memory loss, he remains at the Cooper home and is cared for by Sissy. During this time, the two become romantically involved behind the back of Sissy’s husband, Carl (Stephen Bogaert), who believes Viktor is the nanny to their son, Harlan (Justin Paul Kelly). Sissy makes a considerable impact on Viktor, and the two dream of running away together until he is taken by the FBI, which shatters their plans.
When the two met, Viktor hadn’t come out as transgender and still used his birth name, and returning to the present helps him realize his true identity.
Sissy’s influence on Viktor is crucial to Viktor’s storyline. When the two met, Viktor hadn’t come out as transgender and still used his birth name, and returning to the present helps him realize his true identity. Viktor also discovers that Sissy eventually dies of cancer on the day he was born in 1989, which is one of his saddest moments in The Umbrella Academy. However, with the power of time travel, anything is possible in The Umbrella Academy, especially as it could be interesting to see Sissy meet Viktor post-gender transition, too.
Viktor comes out as a transgender man, in line with actor Elliot Page’s own announcement, in The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode “World’s Biggest Ball of Twine.”
