WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!Netflix’s Wednesday season 2 already has a difficult task in repeating the first season’s viral dance scene, and Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 puts even more pressure on the anticipated sequence. It’s now been two years since the Addams Family spinoff show hit Netflix, with Wednesday season 2 being expected to finally return in 2025. Before season 2, director Tim Burton and Wednesday Addams actress Jenna Ortega have already collaborated on another big-budget horror-comedy, as Ortega stars in Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 cast as Astrid Deetz, the teenage daughter of Winona Ryder’s iconic 1988 Beetlejuice character Lydia Deetz.
It shouldn’t have come as a surprise that Tim Burton put Jenna Ortega in a big dance number for Beetlejuice 2, as he directed the Wednesday season 1 episode “Woe What a Night,” which went viral for Ortega’s dance to “Goo Goo Muck.” After it was revealed that there will be another dance scene in Wednesday season 2, Tim Burton has already directed yet another hit dance scene with Beetlejuice 2’s “MacArthur Park” sequence. This outing once again involves Jenna Ortega with similar dance moves to “Goo Goo Muck,” and raises the stakes for Wednesday season 2’s dance follow-up.
Beetlejuice 2 Raises The Stakes For Wednesday Season 2’s Dance Scene Follow Up
Tim Burton Has To Follow Up Both Wednesday Season 1 & Beetlejuice 2
After “Day-O” in Beetlejuice and “Goo Goo Muck” in Wednesday season 1, the Tim Burton-directed dance scene in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to “MacArthur Park” continues his streak of exciting choreography to unique song choices. The “MacArthur Park” scene involves Michael Keaton’s Betelgeuse possessing Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder, and Justin Theroux to dance and sing along to the Richard Harris song at Betelgeuse and Lydia’s wedding. The Beetlejuice 2 scene is brilliantly choreographed, lit, directed, and acted, which raises the stakes for Wednesday season 2’s dance scene to live up to those from both season 1 and the 2024 movie.
It’ll be difficult to follow-up both Beetlejuice 2 and Wednesday season 1’s dance scene, but the hit Netflix show already appears to be adding a twist to its dance sequence to keep it fresh in season 2. It was reported that Luis Guzmán’s Gomez Addams will dance in Wednesday season 2, which could mirror the big dance sequence of the extended Addams family tree in the 1991 The Addams Family movie. While it’s still unclear whether Jenna Ortega will dance in season 2, the pressure is on for Tim Burton to repeat the success of his two latest horror-comedy dances.
Netflix has yet to give Wednesday season 2 an official release date. However, the next batch of episodes is expected to be released in 2025.
Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 Dance Scene Is Great News For Wednesday Season 2’s Song Choice
Audiences Can Expect The Unexpected For Another Tim Burton Dance Scene
Just as unexpected as “Goo Goo Muck” was for Jenna Ortega’s viral Wednesday moment, choosing “MacArthur Park” for Beetlejuice 2‘s song was a unique and surprising choice after the original used Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O.” This suggests that season 2’s big dance will have a similarly unexpected song choice for Gomez, which will also likely see a great resurgence in popularity like the songs for Wednesday season 1 and Beetlejuice 2. Burton has done a great job of introducing classic songs to wider audience and demographics through these dance scenes, and Wednesday season 2 is primed to repeat this treatment.
