Since Liam Payne’s death, his friends and family have raised an eye-watering amount to help Great Ormand Street Hospital, with staff saying they are ‘extremely touched’

Liam Payne’s family and friends have raised a staggering £31,000 for a children’s charity following his death.

The late One Direction singer tragically fell to his death aged just 31 in October, 2024. He fell from the third floor of a hotel. An autopsy ruled that Liam had died instantly after his fall which caused “multiple traumatic injuries” and subsequently led to “internal and external haemorrhage.”

But since his funeral, Liam has left a legacy that will contribute to building a new children’s cancer unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Liz Tait, the hospital’s director of fundraising, expressed deep gratitude: “We’re extremely touched and grateful for all the donations in memory of Liam, which will go towards building a brand new children’s cancer centre at Great Ormond Street. ” She added, “Our thoughts and sincere condolences continue to go out to Liam’s family and friends.”

An insider revealed that while Payne’s loved ones are still reeling from the loss, there is solace in the impact of his legacy. Speaking to The Sun, they said: “Everyone is still coming to terms with the tragic loss of Liam, but there is some comfort in knowing the legacy he leaves behind.

“Everyone is still coming to terms with the tragic loss of Liam, but there is some comfort in knowing the legacy he leaves behind.” They also noted the generosity at his service: “Everyone dug deep at the service and the amount raised is staggering — it will help change lives.”

The source went on to explain that while music was one of Liam’s passions, he cared about helping others and was inspired by his son, Bear. Shortly after Liam’s heartbreaking death, the Mirror revealed that in his final hours, he was still helping others and donated huge sums of money to people to help pay for their medical treatment.

One of those was Jack, 28, 2ho is battling Stage 4 B Cell Lymphoma. Liam donated $3,000 to Jack, who revealed he was left blown away when he saw the musicians name appear on his GoFundMe page. He told us: “I thought it was a prank or someone donating under a false name in the interest of preserving their own anonymity, until reports started coming out about Liam’s acts of kindness during his final days.”

He continued: “Once we started seeing other reputable sources saying Liam had donated to my GoFundMe, it became sort of surreal. I’m so thankful and I feel extremely lucky.” Liam’s funeral saw a star-studded turnout with ex Cheryl Tweedy, Simon Cowell, James Corden, and his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik all in attendance. The service encouraged attendees to donate, as stated on the order of service card: “Thank you for attending the service and thank you for all the kind messages received. Liam would like you to make a donation. In memory of Liam, we’d like you to consider Great Ormond Street Hospital.”

Adding to the tributes, Odeon cinemas across the UK brought back the 1D tour documentary This Is Us for a one-off showing last week, with all ticket revenue supporting mental health organisations MIND, SAMH, and AWARE NI.
