The Bridgerton season 3 finale sees Penelope and Colin with their newborn son, but the show never actually confirms the baby’s name. In reality, the time jump at the end of Bridgerton season 3 was quite a surprise. Colin and Penelope got their happily ever after, but received even more joy in the form of a son. Colin and Penelope’s child will even be the Featherington heir, since Prudence and Philippa had girls. The existence of this new child raises many questions about who he will become in the future of the Bridgerton franchise.
Colin and Penelope’s surprise baby isn’t a far stretch from Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books. In the novels, the duo do have a child. In fact, they have more than one. However, the way Netflix’s Bridgerton approaches Colin and Penelope’s children is already a bit different from how Quinn did it. Plus, without knowing the baby’s name, it’s hard to decipher how much of the book Netflix will adapt, and how much it will scrap. Only time will tell which direction the period drama goes in, but hopefully, Colin and Penelope’s children will be named in the near future.
Colin & Penelope’s First Child In The Books Is Called Agatha – Which Doesn’t Fit The Show
Agatha Isn’t In Bridgerton
This section contains spoilers for Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books.
The biggest difference that Bridgerton has made between itself and Julia Quinn’s books regarding Colin and Penelope’s children is the first baby’s gender. According to Quinn’s writings, Colin and Penelope’s first child is a girl who they name Agatha. Clearly, this is not what occurred on-screen at the end of Bridgerton season 3. Presumably, Bridgerton’s writers changed this so that Penelope’s child could become the Featherington heir. Plus, Penelope and Colin do eventually have sons later on. However, this is the first change in what could be many when it comes to Colin and Penelope’s Bridgerton futures.
In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Penelope names her daughter Agatha after Lady Danbury.
With the baby’s gender change, there is also the loss of the name Agatha. This may seem insignificant, since Colin and Penelope will have daughters later, but it isn’t just gender keeping Agatha’s name from the equation. In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Penelope names her daughter Agatha after Lady Danbury. She does this because the two form a very close bond throughout the book as Lady Danbury is one of the few people to truly notice Penelope before her transformation. As a result, she looks out for her. Unfortunately, Netflix’s Bridgerton cut this plotline, making the name Agatha far less important.
In this way, it is unclear whether Bridgerton will keep the name Agatha for Colin and Penelope’s future daughter. In the book, Colin and Penelope’s two daughters are named Agatha and Jane. However, without the context of Penelope and Lady Danbury’s friendship, the name Agatha doesn’t really make any sense. Therefore, the name could easily be replaced with something entirely different, just as Penelope and Agatha’s friendship was in season 3.
Colin & Penelope’s Sons In The Books Are Called Thomas & George
Bridgerton 3’s Baby Could Be Thomas Or George
This section contains spoilers for Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books.Since Bridgerton season 3’s baby was not a girl, his name is certainly not Agatha. Yet Julia Quinn gives Colin and Penelope two sons after their happily ever after, and one of their names could be that of Colin and Penelope’s newborn son. In the Bridgerton books, Colin and Penelope have sons named Thomas and George. Unlike Agatha, these names have no particular meaning behind them, therefore Bridgerton has free rein to use them. Although, George is notably the name of England’s king and Charlotte’s husband, who plays a vital role in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Overall, there is little reason why Colin and Penelope’s son should not be called Thomas or George. If he was given one of these names, then Netflix’s Bridgerton would be more book-accurate, which is something audiences almost always appreciate. Furthermore, it seems unlikely that Colin and Penelope’s children will play a big role in the future of Bridgerton anyway. Therefore, his name is of little consequence. For the next few seasons, he will be too young to add to the plot. Simon and Daphne’s baby Augie has done little since his birth at the end of season 1.

Colin & Penelope’s Son May Be Named After Eloise
Nicola Coughlan Suggested Elliot
Though Bridgerton itself has given no hint of the name of Penelope and Colin’s son, the actors have given their two cents. In a red carpet interview with Etalk, Nicola Coughlan revealed that she has always wanted Penelope and Colin to name their child Elliot if he was a boy. She goes on to explain that it would be “a nod to their very beloved third wheel,” aka Eloise. On the other hand, Luke Newton replied that he would want their child’s name to start with an A to follow the Bridgerton tradition.
Naming Colin and Penelope’s son Elliot is a very sweet idea. Although Bridgerton season 3 cut out Penelope and Agatha’s relationship, the friendship between Penelope and Eloise has remained at the forefront. In season 3, Pen and Eloise face many ups and downs, but end up being best friends regardless. Coughlan may be on to something by having Penelope’s child honor Eloise. The relationship between Penelope and Colin clearly saddens Eloise because she doesn’t want to lose her brother or her best friend, but naming their child after her proves that she will never be forgotten.
Colin & Penelope’s Baby Name May Break Bridgerton’s Alphabet Trend
Colin & Penelope May Break What Daphne Started
Whether Bridgerton names Colin and Penelope’s son Thomas, George, or Elliot, none of these names would fit the Bridgertons’ adorable naming trend. One of the unique aspects of the Bridgerton family members is that the eight siblings are named via the alphabet. The eldest is Anthony, the second eldest is Benedict, the third eldest is Colin, and so on. Daphne continued this fad when she named her son August or Augie. However, Colin and Penelope may not continue the Bridgerton name. If Bridgerton remains book-accurate, the trend will be broken. Nicola Coughlan’s idea, though cute, would also break the alphabet chain.
There is no release date for Bridgerton season 4 at this time.
At this point, there is not even a hint at what Penelope and Colin will name their son. Perhaps Bridgerton season 3 purposefully made its viewers wait for the new Bridgerton’s name. Maybe the period drama has something really dramatic and awesome up its sleeve. However, for now, audiences will simply have to keep theorizing about which name the show will go with. Whether they go with tradition, book accuracy, or something sentimental, Colin and Penelope’s son will hopefully have a name by Bridgerton season 4. Then, there’s no telling what this next Bridgerton generation may get up to.
