A Sydney businessman was arrested after police alleged he spiked his wife’s tea with pesticide in an attempted murder plot spanning over nearly two years.

A Sydney businessman is set to fight allegations he spiked his wife’s tea with pesticide in an attempted murder plot.
Police allege Stephan Wagner, 63, poisoned his wife Glenda Wagner, 66, by putting rat poison in her tea, causing her to become seriously ill.
The alleged poisonings occurred between December 2022 and September 2024 at the couple’s St Andrews home, police allege.
Mr Wagner, from St Andrews in Sydney’s southwest, pleaded not guilty in the Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.


He has pleaded not guilty to a lone charge of cause poison etc to be taken with intent to murder.
Another charge of use poison etc as to inflect grievous bodily harm was withdrawn.
Mr Wagner was arrested back in October 2024, and has remained in custody on remand since.
Police also seized a bottle of an insecticide for forensic examination following his arrest during a search of his home.
Mr Wagner is also facing two charges of breaching an AVO which will remain before the Local Court.
On his LinkedIn profile, Mr Wagner describes himself as a semi-retired businessman who worked at the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science until March 2023.
He is also understood to have worked on projects at the CSIRO.
Mr Wagner will be arraigned for trial before the District Court on 12 March.
