King Charles and Queen Camilla’s beloved home, Balmoral Castle is set for disruption as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy and persistent rain from 6pm today until Friday night.
The Met Office states that the bad weather “may lead to some flooding”, but the likelihood of impact is “low”. The Met Office states: “Rain, whilst intermittent at first on Wednesday, will become persistent and heavy over high ground later in the day, continuing into Thursday and potentially Friday. Rainfall accumulations of 30-60 mm are likely fairly widespread inland, with 80-120 mm possible over the highest ground exposed to the brisk southeasterly winds.
“Given the nature of the ground following recent rain and snow thaw, this may lead to some flooding in places. Rainfall totals will be smaller in coastal areas, but strong onshore winds and large waves at times will be additional hazards.”
The statement continued: “In addition, rain will fall increasingly as snow over high ground, especially on Thursday and into Friday, adding to the uncertainty as to how quickly rivers may respond downstream.”
The affected areas include: Central, Tayside & Fife (Angus, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross and Stirling), Grampian (Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray) Highlands & Eilean Siar (Highland).
Balmoral Castle has been the cherished home of the Royal Family since 1852. The 50,000-acre estate features mountains, forests, and lochs, serving as a cherished private holiday home for generations.
Parts of the castle, however, including the ballroom, are open to the public when the royals aren’t in residence.

The estate has been increasingly opened up to the public by King Charles, with visitor tours of the main castle costing around £100 a ticket.
King Charles has continued the Royal Family tradition of spending his summer holidays at Balmoral, which sits on the banks of the River Dee.
Recently, plans for the Queen’s Building, which is currently used for visitors and as an event space for staff, have been lodged with Aberdeenshire Council.
They seek permission to convert the venue for “weddings, dinners, meetings and other events”.
