The State Emergency Service is warning residents to prepare now as wild weather smashing the state’s north moves south towards Adelaide.
The warning comes amid flooding across parts of North East South Australia, which may threaten resident’s safety.
Adelaide is also bracing for heavy rainfall with possible flash flooding into the weekend.
SES state duty officer Heidi Davis told FIVEAA it was important South Australians were aware of the weather conditions to come.
“There may even be some isolated pockets that will see sort of the 100 to the 120mm of rain in some areas,” she said.
“What we want the communities across the whole of South Australia to make sure that they’re doing is being aware of what the current situations are,” she said.
“Make sure that they stay up to date with what the weather predictions are, utilising their apps and however else they get their weather information, so that they can maintain that situational awareness.
She said it was important for families to prepare their homes and yards for flooding.
“We know we’re heading into the weekend, people like to do lots of socialising, but it’s really important that they do some preparations around their properties to make sure that the rain that hits their roofs and their garden doesn’t get trapped,” she said.
“So cleaning out your gutters and your downpipes, making sure that if you’ve got any free flowing areas in the gardens that they’re all free flowing and not chucked up with leaf litter.
Ms Davis said care on the roads was crucial.
“We also want people to make sure that they’re maintaining care when driving on the road when we’re getting heavy downpours,” she said.
“Have a real good think about whether they need to be out on the roads, but also they’re going to be driving near any areas where there are low lying areas where water quite often pools.
