POP ROYALTY NO MORE? BOYBAND STAR, 53, LOOKS UNRECOGNISABLE DANCING IN HIS KITCHEN — 32 YEARS AFTER FAME AND A ‘NORMAL’ JOB

The singer was a part of one of the UK’s most popular boy bands back in the 90s

EAST 17 star John Hendy looks completely unrecognisable as he dances in the kitchen 32 years after finding fame in the pop band.

The singer took to TikTok to share a video of himself singing and dancing to the group’s hit song Innocent Erotic which released back in 1995.

He stood in his kitchen and grooved as he told his followers: “This is for all of you East 17 fans, this is my Christmas song for you.”

John pulled out his best moves as he sang along to the song while dressed in a black shirt and black tie with ripped jeans.

The star looked worlds away from his boyband days as he delighted fans of the band with the throwback song and impromptu performance.

TikTok users flocked to the comments section to express their thoughts as many were taken on a trip down memory lane with the full on nostalgia.

One person commented: “My favourite band when I was a youngin… I remember seeing yous at Whitley bay ice rink! Hahaha.”

Another social media user expressed: “East 17 my absolute fave.”

Somebody else enthused: “Would love to see East 17 back on stage. Brian included! That would be epic.”

Yet another gushed: “Tremendous, still got it, young man.”

While a fifth fan added: “Omg John I was sooo obsessed with East 17, it was prob unhealthy.”

John uploaded a second video on his page but this time round he was moving and shaking to Usher’s song Yeah! with Lil John and Ludacris.

He began the clip with a hood on his head and sitting down on a chair while vibing to the music before suddenly jumping up and showing off some fancy footwork.

East 17 was formed in 1991 and the group consisted of John along with Tony Mortimer, Brian Harvey and Terry Coldwell.

They are best known for their 1994 hit single, Stay Another Day, which was the UK Christmas number one that year.

Their signature music style blended pop and hip-hop and they were considered as one of the UK’s most popular boy bands during the early to mid-90s.

They went on to release 18 top-20 singles as well as four top-10 albums, but the group underwent multiple lineup changes, with Terry being the only consistent member.

He is still a part of the band, along with Robbie Craig who joined in 2014 and Joe Livermore, who joined in 2019.

The trio are continuing to release new music and are often touring for 90s nostalgia events.

John has since quit fame and now works as a roofer in a much more ‘normal’ way of life.

Earlier this year, he told Mail Online: “One friend said to me ‘I’d rather give this all up and then just go out for one week and experience what you’ve done’, you know what I mean? Because what an experience that is.

“That’s the only way I could look at it. Yeah it’s people’s dream, innit, we’ve had the dream, that’s the way I look at it.

“But like I say, I’m happy doing what I do because I’m at the top of my game.

“I’m sort of like best of the best on the roof side. I enjoy it because I know everything.”
