Amanda Owen and her ex Clive were getting on well in the latest episode of Our Farm Next Door, as Clive said: “For some crazy reason it’s worked alright.”

But Clive added that at nearly 70 years old, he was taking a step back from some of the more heavy-duty tasks involved in farming. He shared that the family had been “discussing where the future lies for everyone”.

The former couple, who share nine children, split in 2022 after 22 years of marriage, but have continued to share a house as they work side by side on their farm and in renovating an old farmhouse, featured in More 4 series Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids.

Monday’s episode of the hit series also showed the family celebrating youngest child Nancy’s ninth birthday – although she privately admitted, following her party, that they had all got the date wrong.

Fans of the Yorkshire Shepherdess’s TV shows continue to be fascinated by Amanda and Clive Owen post-split, as they continue parenting, working, and even living together.

Opening up on how things are between them, Clive said in Monday’s episode of Our Farm Next Door: “Me and Amanda, for some crazy reason it’s worked alright. We’re not together, but we can keep things going to suit everybody and that’s what we intend to do.”

As Amanda was shown bringing Clive a coffee and telling him she had brought over some pies for his lunch, she said: “Things are good and I think being busy plays a huge part in keeping everybody’s focus.”

One of the busy tasks featured in the episode was shearing sheep, with Amanda and son Miles taking on the bulk of the work while Clive watched.

He said: “I’ve sheared thousands of sheep in my time, but I’m getting older and my back doesn’t like it. I’m here to supervise and make sure everything’s done to my liking.”

Clive praised Amanda’s sheep-shearing skills as she said she enjoyed the job because traditionally women wouldn’t have done it. “I don’t feel like I’m just taking the good bits. I’m getting my hands dirty and doing the hard bits,” she said.

In other scenes, Clive told the plasterers – some old friends – at their farmhouse renovation that he wasn’t able to help out quite as much as when he was younger.

Watching son Miles shearing sheep, Clive said: “It’s a young fella’s game. I’m almost 70 now, so I’ve got to think about what comes next. It’s something the family are discussing at the moment to see where the future lies for everyone. It’ll be nice for me to pass on my shears.”

Nancy’s birthday…or is it?

It was a big day at Ravenseat Farm as the youngest child of the family’s nine, Nancy, turned nine. But she later admitted away from her family that they had all got her birthday wrong.

Amanda asked her daughter: “How old are you today Nancy?” as she brought out two birthday cakes for the large family, and Nancy replied: “Nine.”

Eldest daughter Raven commented: “In one year from now, mum’s going to have no one in single digits, children-wise.”

Amanda said: “That’s a bit of a scary thought.” She later added: “The children are growing up and as they’re growing up they’re more independent and more outgoing.”

But as Nancy told the cameras how nice it was to have all of her family together, she confessed: “I think I forgot to tell people my birthday’s tomorrow. Not today. Umm, yeah. I had gifts, I had a cake, that’s good.”

Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids airs on More 4 at 9pm on Mondays.
