Luke Reimer, 20, and Mary Mich, 20, both juniors at the Ohio university, were found dead in a vehicle on campus shortly after noon on Monday.
The couple died from carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
In one of his heartbreaking final posts on Instagram, Reimer shared that he and Mich, whose account is private, had celebrated their first anniversary.
“One year with the most beautiful woman! I love you,” he captioned a carousel of photos showing the couple around campus in November.
Just over a month before his death, Reimer shared another series of photos showcasing Mich, his friends, and his time on the school lacrosse team.
“I’m free,” Reimer captioned the post.
In his final post, Reimer posted another series of photos of Mich and his family celebrating Christmas.
“Amazing ending to the year,” he wrote.
The university canceled all activities on Monday night and instead held a prayer service to honor the couple.
“This news brings profound sorrow to our entire Franciscan University community,” said the school’s president, Rev. Dave Pivonka, in a statement on Monday.
“We grieve the loss of two young lives, and our hearts ache for their families, friends, classmates, professors, and all who knew and loved them. Please know that we are holding Luke and Mary, and all who mourn them, close in prayer, asking the Lord for comfort, mercy, and peace.”

Their bodies were discovered in the parking lot of St. Agnes Residence Hall, an all-female dorm building on campus.
The university stated that officials do not suspect foul play was involved.
Reimer was a business major at Franciscan, while Mich studied theology and catechetics, according to their obituaries.
Reimer, who hailed from Florida, was also a defender on the university’s lacrosse team and played in 31 games over his two years at the school, according to his player profile.
Mich, from Pennsylvania, was a dancer and spent her summers involved at an orphanage in Ecuador, according to her obituary.
