La escudería Aston Martin, con el objetivo de un proyecto más ambicioso en 2025, anunció este martes la incorporación del ingeniero británico Adrian Newey, quien se convirtió en pieza fundamental del éxito de Red Bull en las últimas dos décadas.
“Adrian Newey ha comprometido su futuro a largo plazo con el equipo de Fórmula 1 Aston Martin Aramco. El aclamado diseñador británico comenzará a trabajar en la sede del equipo en Silverstone a partir del 1 de marzo de 2025 y asumirá un nuevo rol como socio técnico gerente“, indicó Aston Martin en un comunicado.
“El nombramiento de Adrian Newey es otra declaración de las ambiciones de Aston Martin Aramco en la Fórmula Uno. Adrian tiene un historial de éxitos inigualable: ha llevado a equipos de F1 a ganar 25 títulos mundiales de Fórmula Uno, consolidando su posición como la mente técnica más grande en la historia de este deporte“, destacó.
El ingeniero de 65 años, que desde 2006 estuvo vinculado a Red Bull y que antes trabajó en Williams y McLaren, se mostró ilusionado por este nuevo paso en su carrera. “Estoy encantado de unirme al equipo de Fórmula 1 Aston Martin Aramco. Me ha inspirado e impresionado enormemente la pasión y el compromiso que Lawrence (Stroll, dueño del equipo) aporta a todo lo que hace“.
“Junto con grandes socios como Honda y Aramco, tienen todas las piezas clave de infraestructura necesarias para hacer de Aston Martin un equipo ganador del campeonato mundial y estoy ansioso por ayudar a alcanzar ese objetivo“, apuntó.
Newey, que estuvo en la mira de Ferrari y Williams, desarrollará el monoplaza que conducirán el español Fernando Alonso, doble campeón de mundo, y el canadiense Lance Stroll.
