Liam Payne’s body has arrived back in the UK following his tragic death in Argentina last month. His father Geoff has been waiting weeks to bring his son home

The body of former One Direction member, Liam Payne, has finally been returned to the UK following his tragic death last month. The 31 year old star died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

His father, Geoff Payne, had flown to South America and waited weeks to bring his son’s body home. Liam had been vacationing in Argentina and attended a concert by former bandmate Niall Horan with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, before his untimely death on October 16.

Tributes have poured in to Liam from devastated family members, fans, and fellow celebrities. After further toxicology and laboratory tests were completed this week, local authorities released his body to his family, as confirmed by public prosecutor Andrés Madrea.

Geoff Payne returned to the UK with his son’s body yesterday, landing at London Heathrow at 7:49am. Fans tracked the flight all the way to the UK, making it the most tracked aircraft in the world.

According to respected Argentinian daily La Nacion, Geoff was informed in a recent meeting with prosecution chief Andres Madrea that he could return to the UK with Liam’s body two weeks after arriving in Argentina. The report stated: “All the documents are ready for the former One Direction singer to return to his homeland so a funeral can take place there next week.”, reports the Mirror.

“When Geoff Payne arrived in Argentina on October 18, he was informed that the repatriation process could take between four and five days. However, due to the circumstances surrounding his son’s death, things took longer than expected,” it was reported. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Buenos Aires continues to investigate the tragic circumstances of the singer’s untimely passing.

Fans have already started paying tribute outside St. Peter’s Collegiate Church in central Wolverhampton, leaving flowers and heartfelt handwritten messages by the Lady Wulfrun statue.

Details about Liam’s funeral are still under wraps, but it is speculated to be held in his hometown of Wolverhampton. An insider told MailOnline: “Liam will have a very big send-off, quite probably at a large cathedral somewhere close to his heart. Liam was so loved by so many people, there will obviously be enormous demand and so the service will necessarily be a huge affair.”

As news of his funeral details surfaced, fans across social media platforms urged others to respect the family’s privacy and not attend the funeral.

The funeral of One Direction star Liam is expected to be a private affair, allowing his loved ones the necessary space to grieve. It’s reported that the service will include a “series of song tributes”, reflecting his passion for music.

His family reportedly plans to incorporate a unique musical component into the ceremony. According to a source who spoke to Radar Online, there will be “a series of song tributes from some very big acts” at the farewell.
