One Direction star Liam Payne’s family are struggling with fans theorising foul play in their son’s death, as his friend Roger Nores continues to disrupt their grieving

Liam Payne’s family have reportedly reacted to the ongoing debate and developing claims about his death.

The One Direction star tragically died on the 16th October 2024 aged just 31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling from a third-floor balcony of his hotel. Three people were charged in connection with Liam’s death in Argentina in November, but the charges were dropped earlier this month.

Following the dropped charges some fans have made outrageous claims about the manner of Liam’s death, with many posts on Twitter and TikTok threatening his family’s peace by theorising that his passing was part of a grisly murder plot . Meanwhile, one man who had the charges dropped – Roger Nores – has given a series of interviews about his friend Liam, some of which slam his family.

“Liam’s family have zero desire to speak out or respond to [Nores] or anyone else – they will continue to keep a dignified silence,” a source told The Sun following Nores’ frequent comments.

The insider added that they “understand the global interest” in Liam’s death considering his fame, but want to focus on “his legacy” rather than speculation about his final moments and any speculation of foul play.

Alongside making claims about Liam and his family Nores has also decided to level a $10 million lawsuit against Liam’s dad Geoff Payne, alleging that Geoff made sworn declarations to Argentine officials which were “false, contained material omissions, and many parts were not based on personal knowledge.” Nores has recently doubled down on his decision not to drop the case.

The source told the outlet that Nores’ choice not to drop the case has “naturally caused distress,” but added that it was “not surprising” to Liam’s family considering he’d “given a running commentary ever since last October.”

Focusing on building Liam’s legacy, the star’s family is said to be working with Wolverhampton Council to bring together tributes for him in his home city. A spokesperson from the council spoke of the tributes which were left for Liam during his memorial, and revealed that after his funeral they had “respectfully collected and preserved these items which have since been shared with Liam’s family at their request.”

They added: “When the time is right for them, we plan to host a display of some of the items at the City Archives so fans and visitors to Wolverhampton can see for themselves some of the loving tributes left for Liam who is one of our city’s greatest stars.”

Liam’s funeral was held on November 20 last year, and his family seems keen to put him to rest despite figures such as Nores seemingly reigniting speculation about the star. Noresmet Liam in 2020 at a Vogue party in London, and they immediately became fast friends despite their very different occupations. In a recent interview, Nores claimed that Liam had overdosed in May 2024, and that after Liam was discharged from hospital, Geoff Payne pushed for the star to be sectioned.
