Netflix has a comedy hit on its hands with Nobody Wants This, which charts the unlikely romance between agnostic podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and rabbi Noah (Adam Brody).
Despite having very different lives, beliefs and families, they decide to give their relationship a go, which takes them on a roller coaster journey, before ending on a cliffhanger that leaves their future up in the air.
Following the show’s enormous popularity, creator Erin Foster has spoken out on when Nobody Wants This season 2 could be released on Netflix, and how Joanne’s story won’t necessarily mirror her own.

“We always use my experiences as a template to jump off of, if it works and if the room really responds to it,” she explained. “But [Joanne’s] her own person. She has her own story, for sure.”
Foster added, “So, I don’t know. It could go either way,” referring to whether Joanne will ultimately decide to convert to Judaism or remain agnostic, with the latter option raising complications for her relationship with Noah.

Will there be a Nobody Wants This season 2?

Yes, season 2 of Nobody Wants This is happening after racking up an impressive 26.2 million views in its first 11 days of release, according to Deadline – making it one of the streamer’s best launches ever for an original comedy series.
According to Deadline, creator and executive producer Erin Foster will remain its “creative voice”, but Girls’ Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan have joined as showrunners.
“Creating Nobody Wants This will forever be a career highlight for me,” said Foster. “The incredible cast, crew, producers and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers’ reactions to this series now that it’s out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed.
“I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story, and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls… Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic.”
Konner said it’s a “dream” to be working on the show, adding: “Erin is the rare creator with a crystal clear voice and a genuinely collaborative spirit. I am a true fan of Erin’s show and also feel so lucky to be back in a room with two of my favourites, Bruce Kaplan and [writer] Sarah Heyward from Girls.”
Kaplan also echoed her words: “I am excited beyond belief to be a part of season 2 of Nobody Wants This, created by the hilarious Erin Foster. It is such a unique and beautiful show and I am already having the best time working on it.”
Nobody Wants This season 2 release date potential: When could it air?
Nobody Wants This creator Erin Foster told The Hollywood Reporter that the show would “probably” be back for season 2 in September 2025, although that is still subject to change for now.
The show’s writers were commissioned to begin working on ideas for season 2 prior to the episodes being officially ordered, meaning they are able to make a running start at the next set of scripts.
“It’s basically going to be coming back, probably, in September again next year,” explained Foster. “Once a year, the same time, we’ll be really consistent. We’re just going to be a Rosh Hashanah launch, always.”
The creator also teased that she and her team already have ideas for a third season, adding that she’d “like to be employed as long as possible” and “there are a lot of stories to tell”.
Nobody Wants This season 2 potential cast: Who could return?

Nobody Wants This season 2 potential plot: What could happen?
After telling Noah that she wanted to convert to Judaism, Joanne then came to the realisation that she wasn’t ready, and wasn’t sure she ever would be, which was a complicating factor before, but is even more so now that Noah looks set to become head rabbi.
She then reluctantly broke off their relationship and told Noah not to follow her, even though she desperately wanted him to, and that, it seemed, was that.
But there wouldn’t be much of a story if he listened to anything she said, and in the closing moments of season 1, Noah was there waiting for her when she left the shuttle.
“So, how does this work?” asked Joanne.
“Well, you were right, I can’t have both,” he said, before kissing her passionately.
So, Joanne and Noah are set to make another go of it, despite the elephant remaining firmly in the room.
Will she eventually decide to convert after learning more about Noah’s religion and deciding that she also wants it for herself, and not just for her boyfriend?

Will Noah sacrifice both his career and his relationship with his own family and community for their relationship if Joanne decides that Judaism isn’t the right fit for her?
Or will they continue as they are, starting their own quiet revolution within this particular branch of the LA Jewish scene as they refuse to bow to what everyone else demands of them?
The show is inspired by the real-life experience of creator Erin Foster, who did convert to Judaism, but she told The Hollywood Reporter that Joanne “does not have to have the same journey that I had”.
She went on to tease that Joanne and Noah would likely end up together in the end, explaining: “I don’t think this is the kind of show to rob the audience of what they want to see. I think this is a show where you want to get what you want.”
Season 2 cannot arrive soon enough.
