A WOMAN fell from the balcony of her room aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship, and the FBI is now investigating the incident.

The woman fell to her death after going overboard from the balcony and landing on the deck below.

The FBI‘s Los Angeles Office confirmed to The U.S. Sun that it is investigating the incident, adding that the case falls under its Special Maritime and Territorial Jurisdiction.

Federal officials confirmed they responded to the 1,061-foot-long cruise ship when it docked at Catalina Island.

“More specific details are not being provided at this time as the investigation is ongoing,” an FBI spokesperson told KCRA.

Passengers told KABC that the ship departed several hours behind scheduled on Sunday night and that the fall was reported around 2am on Monday, only a few hours into the trip.

The woman’s family has since returned home, Carnival Cruise Line told The U.S. Sun.

“Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one,” the statement continued.

Kelly Duhs, a passenger still on board the ship, told KABC she’s concerned that passengers haven’t been given any official message from the cruise line.

“We hear about this happening. We never think that we’re going to be on the ship,” she said. “It’s very disturbing and sad.”

“There’s a lot of older people on this ship that are concerned. They don’t know what happened,” she continuned.

“Was she thrown over the side? Did she accidentally fall over the side? Did something criminal happen?”

Carnival Firenze, one of the company’s many ships, sails from several major cities, including Long Beach, which is part of Los Angeles County.

This particular ship left from Long Beach and is heading to Ensenada, Mexico, before it is set to return to California on Thursday.

The ship can carry over 5,000 passengers and is designed with Italian-themed decor and food.

The news of the incident came just days after a massive search and rescue operation was launched for a Norwegian cruise ship worker who fell overboard off the coast of Massachusetts.

Carnival Cruise previously caught attention after Anna Kepner, a high school senior was found dead, wrapped in a blanket, covered in life jackets, and stuffed under a bed in her cabin onboard one of its ships in November.

Kepner’s 16-year-old stepbrother was arrested and charged as an adult with her murder, but has maintained that he can’t remember anything from the night of her death.
