The royal children are about to face a major change in their lives as the Palace reportedly finalizes a decision that will separate Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis during the school year for the very first time.
Prince George’s Big Move to Eton College

After months of speculation and family deliberation, palace insiders confirm that Prince George, second in line to the throne, is set to join Eton College, the prestigious boys-only boarding school that once educated both Prince William and Prince Harry.
Despite initial indecision from the Prince and Princess of Wales, George has now been allocated a house at Eton, a tradition for incoming students. The assignment marks the end of a lengthy period of uncertainty, with palace sources admitting that the decision was not made lightly.
“Eton has been going through many internal changes,” one insider shared. “Catherine was cautious. She observed the transitions carefully, including staffing shifts and leadership challenges, before giving her full support.”
George’s move will begin next academic year, following his final term at Lambrook School, where he currently studies alongside his younger siblings.
A Royal Sibling Separation
The choice to send George to Eton means that—for the first time—the three Wales children will attend separate schools:
Prince George (12) – Boarding at Eton College, Windsor
Princess Charlotte (10) – Expected to eventually follow her mother’s footsteps to Marlborough College
Prince Louis (7) – Will remain at Lambrook School for now
While the separation is part of the natural progression of their education, royal watchers have described it as a poignant moment for the close-knit siblings, who have shared nearly every school day together until now.
Why Eton Was the Final Choice
Eton College has a long royal legacy and offers proximity to the Wales family home, Adelaide Cottage, near Windsor. The school’s annual fees are expected to rise to £63,000 per year in 2025.
Although Marlborough College was briefly considered for George—following his mother Catherine’s educational path—sources say “all roads led to Eton.” A palace insider described the school as quietly confident throughout the decision process:
“It was like, ‘We know something you don’t,’ and the people at Eton were smiling. Everyone expected this outcome after William and Kate’s private visits.”
George has also begun to step into a higher public profile, appearing at Trooping the Colour, the 80th anniversary of VE Day commemorations, and joining King Charles for ceremonial engagements. The move to Eton is seen as the next step in preparing him for his future role as king.
A Family Focused on Balance
While this transition marks the start of separate school journeys for the young royals, Prince William and Princess Catherine remain committed to balancing duty with normalcy.
George, Charlotte, and Louis will continue to enjoy family holidays, countryside weekends, and quiet time away from the public eye—ensuring that despite the separation during term time, the royal siblings remain as close as ever.
