Meghan Markle will be honoured for her work at a glitzy gala in Los Angeles next week, but her appearance will clash with a major event for her father-in-law, King Charles. The Duchess of Sussex will speak as a guest of honour for her work in “championing women and underserved communities” at the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County next Saturday, June 14, during the Night of Wonder gala.
Saturday’s glamorous event will imitate “an enchanted garden at night” with immersive exhibits, live music, and dinner served, while the full guest list will include people from across LA’s cultural and philanthropic communities, who are expected to attend, People Magazine first reported. However, on the same day, the King will celebrate his official birthday in London, joined by the rest of the Royal Family.
Brits will be gathering in the capital next Saturday to watch Trooping the Colour, otherwise known as the monarch’s Birthday Parade.

Even though Charles’s actual birthday is on November 14, the incredible ceremony dates back centuries and became an annual event during King George III’s reign in 1760.
It is one of the biggest military ceremonies of the year, featuring over 1,400 parading soldiers, 400 musicians and more than 200 horses. The spectacle comes to an end with an RAF flypast over Buckingham Palace, watched by the Royal Family.
Various senior royals, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, are expected to attend the major event, although Prince William and Princess Kate’s attendance is yet to be confirmed.

Later that day, Meghan will see herself being honoured for her work to “advance community wellbeing and expand opportunity, especially for underserved communities”.
The Duchess’s mission to advance community wellbeing and uplift young women “dovetails with the museums’ approach to connecting community and science by fostering meaningful educational experiences that empower young minds”, the Office of Prince Harry and Meghan said.
Among the programmes shared on the website of their charity, the Archewell Foundation, is The Welcome Project, where Meghan focuses on addressing “the social isolation recently resettled women experience around the world and building more inclusive and connected communities”.
The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) hold one of the biggest and most valuable collections of natural and cultural history in the world, with more than 35 million objects.
Their collections are used for ground-breaking scientific and historical research and in a range of community science programmes, including creating indoor-outdoor visitor experiences.
NHMLAC’s president and director Lori Bettison-Varga said: “We are proud to honour Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, a native Angeleno, whose work to advance community wellbeing and expand opportunity, especially for underserved communities, aligns with our equity-focused approach to developing science literacy for the next generation, including through our Stem and Steam Pathways programmes.”
Meghan and Harry, who celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary last month, live in the US with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after stepping away from the working monarchy.
