The Married At First Sight final vows were held on Tuesday night and while there were tears of joy for some couples, one bride was left devastated by her groom’s decision.
There’s no denying Bec Zacharia and Danny Hewitt have had a hectic time in the Channel 9 experiment.
But Bec thought her love for Danny was going to be reciprocated in the grand finale, however he told her he only saw her as a friend.
The brutal rejection left the 35-year-old almost speechless and she walked out of the woods in tears.
For some viewers, it was a tough watch seeing her break down and demand to be taken home.
“Stop I am so sad for her. I know she sucks sometimes but that is awful,” wrote one.
“That’s painful. That’s a proper breakup she didn’t see coming,” added another.
“Oh my god poor Bec,” said a third.
But not all viewers were sympathetic to her tears, with some people saying she deserved that decision from Danny due to how she behaved throughout the show.
“If only Bec stayed in her lane,” commented one person.
“Nooooo not the consequences of all my actions,” added another.
Why did Danny dumped Bec at the MAFS final vows?
Bec has been involved in a lot of drama over the last two months.
She and Danny had their fair share of arguments over relationship issues, and the 35-year-old has also had tiffs with other people in the experiment.
Bec’s issued multiple apologies, both to her cast mates and to the country, and admitted her behaviour at different stages has been awful.
She told Danny she loved him a few weeks ago, and was hoping he would finally say those words back to her when they met in a forrest surrounded by flowers.
The 35-year-old from Adelaide admitted they had their ups and downs, but knew Danny was the right man for her.
Danny also remarked at how their relationship had grown, and that they had experienced a lot of highs during the experiment.
But towards the end of his final vows, he explained why he wouldn’t be pursing a relationship with her.
“I’ve always said that I want to start thinking about having kids soon, and when I think of bringing kids into the world, I want to bring kids into a stable relationship and a stable, loving home,” he told her.
He added that after spending a week apart from Bec, it felt like a weight had come off his shoulders, which made him realise they weren’t a long-term match.
“I believe you can have multiple soul mates in life, some who are your best friends and some who are your lovers,” Danny added.
“I believe you’re my soul mate as a friend, but I’ve come to realise there’s doubt in my mind [that] you are my soulmate as a lover.
“I’m so sorry to do this to you, but I can’t be your husband anymore. I know this might be hard to hear, but I think we both deserve a happy relationship and a healthier one.”
What happened next?
Bec was understandably devastated by the reaction and chose to walk off without saying much more.
Danny later told a producer that her lack of a reaction was more brutal than he could have imagined and wished she had yelled at him or hit him instead.
Bec was later seen sitting down in her white dress sobbing as the reality of Danny’s decision properly hit her.
Following the episode, Bec posted a picture on Instagram of her alone with a simple message.
“Its better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved before,” she said.
There is a MAFS reunion episode for this Sunday where the cast will come back together to discuss what happened at the final vows.
There could be a lot more drama ahead.
