A former backup of Tom Brady is joining Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff on the defending Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles to work with Jalen Hurts in the 2025 NFL season.
The Super Bowl win remains fresh in the Philadelphia Eagles‘ memory, but Nick Sirianni has already started to prepare for the 2025 NFL season. His latest move, for instance, was hiring a new coach for Jalen Hurts, trusting in a guy who worked closely with Tom Brady back in the day.
On Friday, the Bowling Green State University announced that Scot Loeffler is leaving his position as head coach of the program to accept the job offer from the Eagles, who are adding him to Sirianni’s coaching staff as quarterbacks coach to run the room led by Hurts.
“In these last six seasons, Scot built a very successful program in a challenging climate in collegiate sports. More importantly, he built this program while ensuring his team and coaches were truly committed to the values and mission that make this university great. Like other great coaches in the history of BGSU football, he has demonstrated that when you build around the strengths of this University and its mission, anything is possible,” said BGSU’s Vice President for Athletics Strategy Derek van der Merwe.
Scot Loeffler’s coaching experience before joining the Eagles
Loeffler, 50, arrives in the City of Brotherly Love with plenty of coaching experience in college. He hasn’t worked in the NFL since 2008, when he served as QBs coach for the Detroit Lions.

In his last six seasons at the helm of Bowling Green, Loeffler rebuilt the program to finish his tenure with back-to-back winning seasons and three straight bowl games. Before that, he made a name for himself by developing quarterbacks who went on to play in the NFL—including Brady.
Loeffler’s connection with Tom Brady and Super Bowl-winning QBs
Loeffler’s coaching career started at Michigan, where he had spent four years as a player backing up Brian Griese and Brady. In 1996, the Wolverines hired him as a graduate assistant, and he went on to work at Central Michigan, Florida, Temple, Auburn, Virginia Tech, and Boston College before landing in BGSU.
Apart from Brady, Loeffler coached other quarterbacks who eventually earned a place in the NFL, with some of them even earning Super Bowl rings: Tim Tebow, Brian Griese, Chad Henne, Drew Henson, John Navarre, Logan Thomas, and Anthony Brown.
A new QBs coach in Philadelphia
Loeffler is now going to work with another Super Bowl-winning quarterback in Hurts, filling the gap left by Doug Nussmeier’s departure this offseason. The 54-year-old will work as offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints, who had previously hired former Eagles OC Kellen Moore as head coach for the 2025 NFL season.
This is now the fourth change at quarterbacks coach in five years for Sirianni. Brian Johnson held the position for two seasons from 2021-22 before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023, when Alex Tanney replaced him.
