“P4L” might be the saying on the show, but it’s not quite as true in real life unfortunately, because Outer Banks will be wrapping up with season 5. That’s right. Netflix announced ahead of the final season 4 episode drop that your favorite treasure hunters/hot people are going to have to put away those treasure maps soon. Here’s what we know about the confirmed Outer Banks season 5.

There is *going* to be an Outer Banks Season 5, right?

Yes! Ahead of the second half of season 4, according to a press release, Netflix renewed Outer Banks for a fifth and final season. (The release also reveals that the season 4 finale is “feature length,” kind of like those last couple seasons of Stranger Things, so buckle up.)

What even is Outer Banks season 5 going to be about?

In Tudum’s press release, the show’s creators (Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke) promise an “epic” final season. Burke teases that the treasure hunt for the Blue Crown in season 4 will carry over into season 5, so that gives us a teeny tiny idea. Pate added that they’ve always known how Outer Banks will end—which is comforting, in a way. It’s sad that the show is ending but at least they’re going to get the tell the story they wanted to tell with the ending they planned.

When will Outer Banks season 5 hit Netflix?

Let’s look at how the first four seasons mapped out to solve this mystery, but fair warning, it has not exactly been consistent. Season 1 dropped all at once on April 15, 2020—one of the more perfect times in recent history for a Netflix show to drop IIRC. We all needed to feel like we were at the beach in those days. Season 2 dropped in the summer of 2021, on July 30th. Then they skipped 1.5 years and flipped seasons again. Outer Banks season 3 hit Netflix on February 23, 2023. The most recent season, season 4, followed a recent Netflix trend and split into two halves. It also changed seasons for a third time. Part 1 dropped on October 10, 2024 and Part 2 dropped on November 7. Who can say if season 5 will be available in 2025 or 2026? Will they opt for winter, spring, summer, or fall? It’s truly anyone’s guess.

Where can I satisfy my OBX cravings in the meantime?

At least the Outer Banks cast won’t be hard to find. Drew Starkey is going to blow people away as Daniel Craig’s esoteric love interest in Luca Guadagnino’s Queer this year. (And I have reason to suspect that he’ll be cast, if not starring, in Guadagnino’s upcoming adaptation of American Psycho too.) Madelyn Cline is going to be in the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel. Madison Bailey stars in that time travel slasher movie on Netflix set in 2003 that I’d rather not think too much about, Time Cut. And Chase Stokes has a thriller coming out next year with Lana Condor.
