Unbelievably, Princess Charlotte is on the precipice of becoming a preteen, with her 11th birthday looming on May 2.
The only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton is coming into her own personal style, wearing the same hairstyle three different times in the month of December alone.
It seems Charlotte prefers a half up, half down hairstyle with her long hair tied back in a bow or a ribbon.

Princess Charlotte is fast approaching becoming a preteen—in just over three months, she will turn 11—and has seemingly adopted a signature hairstyle as she grows into her personal style.

For her last handful of public appearances, the only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton has worn her long hair in a half up, half down hairstyle, partially pulled back and tied with a ribbon for three separate events last month. For the royal family’s annual Christmas Day outing at Sandringham, Charlotte tied her hair partially back with a black bow; for the royal family’s annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace—which this year was held on December 16—Charlotte tied her hair partially up with a red bow. For that occasion, her mother, the Princess of Wales, chose to do the same, sporting a black velvet bow in her hair.

Earlier in the month, at Kate’s “Together at Christmas” carol concert on December 5, Charlotte once again wore a half up, half down hairstyle, with her hair tied up in a navy blue ribbon.

Charlotte—along with her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis—is back to school this month after the holidays, so there haven’t been any public appearances thus far. That said, both the Prince and Princess of Wales brought Charlotte up in conversation while visiting Scotland last week, with People reporting that William “lit up” as he met a young girl also named Charlotte.

“You’re Charlotte?” he asked as he leaned down to talk to the little girl. “I’ve got a Charlotte, too. My daughter’s called Charlotte, too.”

Bethan Holt, fashion director at The Telegraph, told People in 2024 of Charlotte that “she’s transitioning from a sweet little girl in smocked floral dresses to a slightly more grownup, tween vibe.” For her 10th birthday last year, a palace insider told the outlet that Charlotte is “a natural and has taken to royal events like a duck to water.”

“She is quite a strong character, almost wise beyond her years,” the source added.

Royal commentator Sharon Carpenter told Us Weekly that Charlotte is “a smart, confident, and funny girl who knows how to hold her own both in the spotlight and outside of it.”

As for her style, “She’s following closely in her mother’s footsteps when it comes to her princess style, and she’s now regarded as a major child fashion icon,” Carpenter continued, adding that the 10-year-old “has a sassy sense of humor, just like her dad.”

Elsewhere on January 20, Kate spoke of Charlotte while visiting tartan-weaving studio Radical Weavers, where Hello! reported she was given a crochet bunny. After thanking 70-year-old Adele Hodgson for the gift, the future queen said that Charlotte would “absolutely love” it, adding that Charlotte has “lots of teddies on her bed.”

Royal historian Marlene Koenig predicted that Charlotte will be “an asset and the secret weapon for the royal family,” with Carpenter telling Us Weekly that she’s “a crucial member of the royal family and is expected to play a pivotal role in the monarchy.”
