The tragic events unfolded around 7pm when a couple were walking along a shoreline.
A random wave knocked Patricia del Pilar Bello Labe, 26, off balance and dragged her into the sea.
Her partner, Felipe Hernandez Bustos, immediately rushed into the water to try to save her, but soon began struggling against the powerful surf.
Ben, his father, Norman Ray Wood, 77, and his partner MarĂa JosĂ© Duarte Ureta, 47, all rushed into the surf to try save the couple.
All three sadly drowned.
Patricia, a lawyer and parliamentary adviser, also died before she could be saved.
Only Felipe survived, rescued by Navy personnel in a naval helicopter.
The Chilean Legal Medical Service confirmed the cause of death for all four victims was asphyxia by submersion.

He had become a recognised figure in the country’s craft beer and food scene, amassing almost 40,000 followers on Instagram.
