Lindsey Vonn’s father has given an update on the skiing star’s health after she was airlifted to hospital following a crash at the Winter Olympics. Vonn experienced a crash during the downhill event in Cortina on Sunday while representing Team USA, leading to her being transported to hospital by helicopter.
Vonn underwent surgery after sustaining a fracture in her left leg and is now stable, but subsequent reports suggested that the 41-year-old was moved to intensive care for her own privacy. Despite suffering a ruptured ACL just days before the start of the event, the skiing star participated in this year’s Winter Olympics. Her father, Alan Kildow, who has been at the hospital with his daughter, has now provided an update on Vonn’s condition, whilst also expressing his desire for her to retire from skiing.
“She’s 41 years old and this is the end of her career,” Kildow stated to The Associated Press.
“There will be no more ski races for Lindsey Vonn, as long as I have anything to say about it.”
He added: “She’s a very strong individual. She knows physical pain and she understands the circumstances that she finds herself in. And she’s able to handle it. Better than I expected. She’s a very, very strong person. And so I think she’s handling it real well.
“She’s well cared for,” he continued. “And the USOC and the US Ski team have a very, very top-notch doctor with her and she is being very well cared for here in Italy.”

Vonn’s sister, Karin Kildow, provided an update on Vonn’s condition shortly after the incident, explaining that the skiing star was fully aware of the dangers before competing in the Olympics.
“I mean that definitely was the last thing we wanted to see and it happened quick and when that happens, you’re just immediately hoping she’s okay,” Karin Kildow said.
“It was scary because when you start to see the stretchers being put out, it’s not a good sign.
“But she really… she just dared greatly and she put it all out there. So it’s really hard to see, but we just really hope she’s okay.
“She does have all of her surgeons and her PT staff here and her doctors, so I’m sure they’ll give us a report and we’ll meet her at whatever hospital she’s at.”
