Heroic Security Guard Hailed As “Protector” After Dying During San Diego Islamic Center Shooting

A security guard at the Islamic Center of San Diego is being remembered as a hero after reportedly sacrificing his own life while helping protect worshippers and children during Monday’s horrifying shooting attack.

The deadly rampage left five people dead, including the two teenage suspects, and plunged the San Diego community into mourning as investigators continued piecing together the terrifying sequence of events inside the mosque and school campus.

Police say the security guard — identified by community members as Amin Abdullah — played a critical role in preventing the tragedy from becoming even worse.

According to authorities, chaos erupted when heavily armed suspects opened fire at the Islamic Center, sending families, students, and worshippers scrambling for safety. But while panic spread throughout the building, Amin reportedly rushed toward the danger instead of away from it.

The father of eight is now being praised across social media as a “true hero who gave his life to protect others.”

Dozens of emotional tributes flooded Abdullah’s Facebook page after news of the tragedy spread.

“The nicest man you’ll ever meet,” one mourner wrote.

“May Allah bless you,” another added.

Although officials have not formally identified Abdullah as one of the victims, San Diego police confirmed the security guard’s actions were instrumental during the attack.

“We do believe the security guard was able to help at least minimize the situation to the front area of the mosque,” San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said during a press conference.

“His actions were heroic. He saved lives today.”

Wahl also praised the law enforcement response, describing the actions of officers and deputies as “remarkable” as they rushed directly toward gunfire inside the Islamic Center.

Authorities said officers arrived within four minutes of the first emergency calls and launched what police described as a fast-moving and highly dangerous operation.

Between 50 and 100 officers reportedly entered the Islamic Center during the response, searching classrooms, prayer halls, offices, and surrounding buildings while terrified families sheltered inside.

“No community should ever have to go through this,” Wahl said.

Investigators confirmed that five people died during the attack, including the two teenage suspects, who police say later died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Three additional victims were connected to the Islamic Center community.

Authorities have not yet publicly released a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing as federal and local law enforcement continue examining evidence from the scene.

But for many grieving community members, attention has now turned toward remembering the man many believe prevented an even greater massacre.

Friends and loved ones describe Amin Abdullah as humble, kind-hearted, and deeply committed to protecting the people around him.

Now, as tributes continue pouring in online, many are calling him exactly what they believe he became in his final moments: a protector who gave everything to save others.
