A woman sustained serious injuries during a brutal dog attack in California.

Dorrie Reyes was mauled by a pack of stray dogs while walking in her neighborhood in Weston Ranch, Stockton, at around 11 a.m. local time on April 23, according to a GoFundMe.

“A group of 7-9 stray dogs (including German Shepard breed and mixed breeds) approached her and violently attacked her,” organizer Rhenell Schiller wrote.

Dorrie filmed the pack of dogs approaching her before being attacked, ABC 10 reported. Her son, Ronnie Reyes, told the outlet his mother suffered “150 to 200 lacerations and punctures all over her body,” including her head, face, arms and legs.

“They got her pretty bad,” he added of the animals that caused Dorrie’s injuries.

A nearby couple heard Dorrie’s cries for help during the attack and saved her, Schiller wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“The good Samaritan was, as far as I know, afraid of dogs, but he still came out to help my mom,” Dorrie’s son told 9 News. “This could have been a lot worse.”

Dorrie “lost a ton of blood” in the attack and was hospitalized for her injuries, Schiller said on the GoFundMe page. She is now in recovery.

“We are happy to report that she is making great progress in her recovery,” Schiller wrote. “We thank the doctors and nurses who worked with her, and she has been in great spirits as she’s been receiving a ton of love from friends and family.”

“We are extremely lucky that she is still here today,” the statement on the fundraising page, which will help cover Dorrie’s medical and legal fees, added.

A spokesperson for the Stockton Police Department (SPD) told PEOPLE in a statement, “Three of the involved dogs have been captured.”

“Coordinated daily efforts have continued to safely locate and capture the remaining dogs as part of an active and ongoing investigation,” they added.

Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee said in a statement to 9 News that the California city is actively responding to dangerous stray dog situations in the area. “This is also a community issue. Pet overpopulation and roaming animals don’t happen without a lack of responsible ownership,” added Lee.

It is currently unclear if anyone has been or will be charged in connection with the attack.

PEOPLE reached out to Lee for comment on Sunday, May 3.
