Kyle Sandilands vows revenge after being sacked by ARN

Radio’s most provocative voice has been silenced as Kyle faces the ultimate consequence of his “unapologetically arrogant” on-air reign.

It had to happen.

The nation’s second-largest city, Melbourne, had voted.

The market had shouted.

The regulator, ACMA, had tightened its grip and one half of the Kyle and Jackie O breakfast radio show had thrown in the towel.

Only the program’s biggest fans and employees still believed Kyle Sandilands and his sidekick Jackie O Henderson represented the national zeitgeist, which to their mind was celebrity obsessed, frequently pornographic in nature and unapologetically and felicitously arrogant.

Driving the vision and leading the movement was Sandilands, who bosses at ARN were unable to rein in.

He had become the equivalent of Nero in the drama and, like the Roman emperor, at times could be vain, extravagant, narcissistic and cruel.

Sandilands was the show, as he told audiences and his team of producers repeatedly.

When this writer suggested in March 2025 that radio executives take the opportunity to retool the program while Sandilands dealt with his latest health crisis, he launched his latest attack on me, slamming me as an “old dolly” who was out of touch.

“Let me explain one more time – the bosses have no control whatsoever over what we do on this show. Zero. None,” he told his KIIS FM audience.

“It starts and ends with what we want to do,” Sandilands blasted.

“It doesn’t matter if the board show up here with all the shareholders. We’re contracted to do whatever we want to do. And if you don’t like it, too bad.

“There’s no one sneaking around in the background fixing s***, cos there’s nothing to fix.”

Clearly, ARN’s executive and board believed – following the collapse of the company’s share price and the softening of revenue – there was.

Kyle Sandilands addresses job suspension on Australian Idol

The radio shock jock revealed that he still has his job “for now”…

ARN’s statement to the market this morning was brief and to the point: “ARN advises that it has issued a notice of termination of contract to Mr Kyle Sandilands … As a result the Kyle and Jackie O show will no longer be presented.”Sandilands has responded by saying: “I’m not done. Not by a long way.”

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O dominated FM airwaves for decades. That’s now all come to an end.

Whatever the termination of Sandilands and Henderson’s contracts may cost the broadcaster in unfair dismissal suits – and Sandilands may have a case to this writer’s mind, given the duo was signed two years ago to new $100 million contracts without adjustments being made to their explicit content – ARN’s new executive has determined the risks to be worth it, even if the figure runs to the tens of millions in legal fees.

Like Nero, Sandilands can be expected to do whatever it takes now to burn his former home and employer, ARN, to the ground.
