Teen girl arrested after three horses were allegedly attacked inside Las Vegas equestrian venue during major barrel racing competition

Competitors arriving for one of the country’s biggest barrel racing events expected another day of fast runs and fierce competition.

Instead, many were met with panic, confusion, and a scene few inside the equestrian world could believe.

Authorities in Las Vegas say a teenage girl has been taken into custody after three horses were allegedly injured with a sharp object during the National Barrel Horse Association Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center.

Police responded shortly after 2 a.m. on May 30 after receiving reports of an injured horse inside a barn near South Las Vegas Boulevard.

When officers arrived, investigators say they discovered three horses had suffered injuries believed to have been intentionally inflicted.

The discovery sent shockwaves through the venue, where riders, trainers, and families from across the country had gathered for the multi-day event.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, investigators quickly identified a teenage girl as the primary suspect. Authorities say she had access to the stable area where the horses were housed.

She was later located at a nearby hotel and taken into custody without incident.

Police say she now faces multiple charges connected to animal cruelty and felony property damage.

Fortunately, officials say none of the horses suffered life-threatening injuries.

However, the injuries were serious enough that all three were unable to continue competing in the Las Vegas Super Show.

The National Barrel Horse Association later confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the matter was handled immediately alongside law enforcement, event security, and South Point staff.

Organizers also said there is no ongoing threat to participants or animals attending the event.

One young competitor told local media she had spoken with the suspect before and was stunned by what allegedly happened.

“It’s scary,” she said. “You never expect something like that here.”
