Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy, was reportedly abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1

oday star Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than a week after her family raised the alarm about her disappearance from her home in Tucson, Arizona.

The 84-year-old was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after she failed to attend her usual church service in the morning. The night before her disappearance, she was last seen by her daughter, Annie Guthrie, and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, whom she shared dinner with.

Nancy’s home showed signs of a struggle, leading authorities to believe she was abducted between Saturday, 10 p.m. and Sunday, 6 a.m. The person who claims to have kidnapped Nancy sent two unverified ransom notes to several media outlets, asking for $4 million in bitcoin by 5 p.m. on Thursday, or $6 million by 5 p.m. on Monday.

The deadline has officially passed for the Guthrie family, with no word yet on whether they paid the ransom or chose to wait for proof of life from their mother’s captors. Savannah shared an emotional message to her supporters on social media on Monday, saying: “We believe our mom is still out there. She was taken, and we don’t know where.”

“I’m coming on just to ask you not just for your prayers, but no matter where you are – even if you’re far from Tucson – if you see anything, if you hear anything, if there’s anything at all that seems strange to you, that you report to law enforcement,” she pleaded. “We need your help.”

The $6 million ransom constitutes a hefty amount of Savannah’s net worth, which reportedly totals $40 million. She makes a reported $8 million per year from her Today show job, and is also a bestselling author with publications like Princesses Wear Pants, Princesses Save the World and Most What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.

She started her career as an attorney before switching to journalism, and went on to become the Today anchor in 2012. On top of her earnings, Savannah also owns several properties with her husband, Michael Feldman, including a Tribeca condo in New York that they bought for $3.5 million in 2012, and a $2.7 million home in the Catskills in southeastern New York State.

Her parents, Nancy and Charles, encouraged her to work and to become financially independent from an early age, as she shared on Today. “My parents were like, ‘Don’t come looking for money and don’t be asking for an allowance to do things you’re supposed to be doing, like make your bed. If you want money to spend, get a job.'”

Savannah’s sister, Annie, is an author, poet and jeweler who lives near Nancy in Tucson. She is also the publicity and marketing director for Kore Press and works at the University of Arizona Poetry Center.

She lives with her husband, Tommaso Cioni, in a Tucson house with an estimated worth of between $650,000 and $1 million. Tomasso works as a middle-school teacher in the area. Savannah’s brother, Cameron, is a retired F-16 fighter pilot, whose net worth is unknown.

Nancy raised her three kids in Arizona after Charles passed away in 1988 following a heart attack. They had moved from Australia and settled in their home three years later, with the ownership remaining unchanged since 1985. It is worth an estimated $1.1 million today. Charles was a mining engineer, while Nancy took up a job in public affairs at the University of Arizona as a clerk to make ends meet.

“My father died when I was entering my senior year in high school. I then lived at home all through college,” Savannah said on the Today show about their financial situation. “We didn’t have money to afford the dorm. And that was thing one, but the other was that my sister and I really felt like we should stick with my mom and not leave her alone.”
