“Every time I hear it, it’s like, ‘Oh my God’.”
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have written and performed a lot of songs. Like, a lot of songs. Shelton has released 12 studio albums and Stefani has five solo albums under her belt, along with six albums with her band, No Doubt.
Over the course of their decades-long careers, they have dozens and dozens of songs between them. It would be impossible for anyone to choose just one song, particularly when it’s your spouse’s work. That didn’t stop a journalist from putting Shelton on the spot and asking him which of his wife’s many, many songs is his favorite.
Shelton took a beat, diplomatically saying that “he had a number of favorites” and “it was hard for him to pick just one”, per Showbiz Cheatsheet. However, when pressed on a November 2024 appearance on Taste of Country Nights, Shelton revealed his favorite song by Stefani.
“There’s some good ones. I’m not just saying that,” the country star explained. He then named the song “Hella Good” as his favorite. The song is a lesser-known song from No Doubt’s 2001 album, Rock Steady.
“Every time I hear it, it’s like, ‘Oh my God’,” he said. Unable to limit himself to just one track, he named a second song from that album, “Hey Baby,” as another favorite. Shelton’s last pick was a song from one of Stefani’s solo albums. He said “Cool” off the singer’s 2004 album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. was “underrated.” Spoken like a good husband and a true fan.
Stefani is also a fan of Shelton’s songbook. In a 2019 interview, Stefani told Andy Cohen that she’s a fan of Shelton’s song, “Mine Would Be You.” “I love that,” she said. “I was like, ‘God, that song’s so good. But there’s so many good ones. He’s written some amazing songs.”
The couple has, of course, written songs together, too, including one track that Stefani says helped bring the couple together in the first place. That song, “Go Ahead And Break My Heart” was the very first duet the couple wrote together in 2016.
