Travis Kelce may have decided to come back for the 2025 NFL season, but the Kansas City Chiefs star already has a warning for Andy Reid and the front office.

Retirement seemed to be a serious option this offseason, but Travis Kelce is not ready to leave Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs yet. The tight end, however, did let the front office know what he expects from them ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
During the latest episode of their “New Heights” podcast released on Wednesday, Kelce told his brother Jason that he wants the Chiefs to make additions this summer, warning Reid and the front office to improve the roster.
“I mean, we gotta get some pieces,” Kelce said. “I think 100%, this offseason, we’re stuck kind of trying to juggle some contract negotiations and losing some key pieces. That hurts. You know, we got a lot of guys that we rely on big time—guys we’ve relied on in the past that have helped us win Super Bowls—who are now in contract negotiations.”
Kelce has a fair point. Kansas City has already seen important contributors pack their bags in the last few years, and this summer could be no different. In fact, Reid and the Chiefs have already parted with one of Patrick Mahomes’ star teammates.

Kelce, Reid’s Chiefs could lose key contributors in 2025
On Tuesday, NFL media reported that the Chiefs are trading guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears. It’s a sacrifice the team is making to have enough cap space, but more players could be leaving before the 2025 season.
A number of pass catchers are about to hit free agency, with Chiefs‘ wide receivers Marquise Brown, Mecole Hardman, DeAndre Hopkins, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Justin Watson all entering the open market.
Mahomes and Kelce could also lose important weapons for the running game, with Kareem Hunt and Samaje Perine still without a contract for next year. The Chiefs should also keep an eye on potential losses on the defensive side of the ball, with linebacker Nick Bolton and defensive back Justin Reid as their most prominent pending free agents.
Kelce still believes in the Chiefs’ front office
Kelce, therefore, wants Reid and the Chiefs’ front office to make sure that the team remains in a position to succeed next season. That said, the 35-year-old made it clear that he believes general manager Brett Veach will work things out.
“I know I’ve always trusted Brett Veach, the front office, and the coaches to bring in the right guys—not just guys with the skill set, the athleticism, and the competitive edge, but guys who do it in a fun way,” Kelce said. “Like, we’ve brought in guys before, you know, like that, who can add to the chemistry of how the weeks go, how the routines go.“
Interesting options for the Chiefs this offseason
While the Chiefs have many positions to take care of this offseason, the WR room may need more attention with up to four wideouts running out of contract. However, the team will have options in the market.
On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Seattle Seahawks let go two interesting wideouts by releasing Christian Kirk and Tyler Lockett, respectively. In addition, the Seahawks accepted to look for a new home for DK Metcalf. With Kelce requesting the Chiefs to add new pieces, Kansas City should be a team to watch in the next few weeks.
