The Dallas Cowboys want McCaffrey
Last season, the Dallas Cowboys had one of the worst rushing offenses in the entire NFL, ranking 27th in that category. Now, they are determined to change that situation to compete in an NFC East division dominated by the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.
Last year, after a stint with the New England Patriots, Ezekiel Elliott returned to the Cowboys, but his performance was disappointing. The former Ohio State running back played in 15 games, recording 74 carries for 226 yards, averaging a meager 3.1 yards per attempt.

In the current free agency period, the Dallas Cowboys signed former Denver Broncos player Javonte Williams. However, this move alone is not enough, and Jerry Jones’ team is looking to make a major statement to become a contender in 2025.
The crazy trade involving Christian McCaffrey and the Dallas Cowboys
It’s no secret that the Dallas Cowboys are interested in Christian McCaffrey, who could have an immediate impact both on the field and in marketing. McCaffrey is coming off a season plagued by injuries, but his talent might be exactly what Dallas’ offense needs.
Sports Illustrated has shared a potential trade scenario between the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys to bring McCaffrey to Jerry Jones’ team. The proposal suggests that Dallas would send its 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick to the 49ers in exchange for the former Stanford University running back.
Of course, losing McCaffrey would be painful, but the current 49ers running back suffered multiple injuries last season, limiting him to just four games. This could push San Francisco to look ahead and target a new player in the upcoming Draft.
The 49ers have been tracking Cam Skattebo
With additional draft capital, should the McCaffrey trade happen, the 49ers have their eyes on Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo. Known for his strong physicality, Skattebo stood out in the 2025 Peach Bowl, where despite ASU’s loss to Texas, he was named Offensive MVP after racking up 271 total yards and contributing to multiple touchdowns.
A California native, Skattebo’s draft stock has been rising daily, and the 49ers could make a serious effort to bolster their rushing attack for the 2025 season.
