Susan Boyle first stole our hearts back in 2009 when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, but has since kept a relatively low profile. The Scottish sweetheart, from West Lothian, left both the judges and viewers at home utterly spellbound with her enchanting rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables.
After the clip went viral, catapulting her to worldwide fame, Susan was the clear favourite to win the show and secure a spot on the Royal Variety Performance, but she ended up finishing second to dance group Diversity.
Despite her global success since her initial appearance on the talent show, the now-63 year old has remained grounded and completely humbled by her achievements.
She has had one of the biggest success stories from the show, so here is a glimpse into her life now.
Staggering earnings Since her rise to fame, Susan’s career has reportedly netted her an impressive £22million. She has released several albums, which have all likely contributed to her substantial wealth.

Her discography includes: I Dreamed a Dream (2009), The Gift (2010), Someone to Watch Over Me (2011), Standing Ovation: The Greatest Songs from the Stage (2012), Home for Christmas (2013), Hope (2014), A Wonderful World (2016) and her most recent – Ten (2019).
Despite her hefty bank balance, Susan Boyle is known for her frugal ways, previously telling Piers Morgan that she’s careful with her spending. The singing star may have millions at her disposal, but she lives by a modest weekly budget of £300-£500, which she insists is “plenty.”, reports the Mirror.
Her business ventures, including Duil Limited, Speur Business, Speur Ltd, and Speur Films, have amassed an impressive £2 million.
Susan’s down-to-earth nature is evident in her choice to stay in her childhood home in Blackburn, West Lothian. She bought her ex-council house for £111,000, a mere fraction of her wealth.
Although she once invested £300K in a five-bedroom house, it didn’t feel right, so she returned to her beloved family home, emphasising her commitment to her roots.
On the health front, Susan opened up about losing two stone after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in a 2016 interview. She was frank about the dietary changes she had to make, saying: “I needed to stop eating sweeties and cakes. It’s the bane of my life.”
Susan Boyle has opened up about her health struggles and future plans in a candid chat with STV’s What’s on Scotland, revealing: “It’s taken me three years and it’s been hard – I’m not going to pretend otherwise but it’s made me determined to keep going.”
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ sensation also shared her excitement for upcoming projects, including a documentary and drama, after bouncing back from a stroke in 2022. On the personal front, Susan discussed her love life, recalling her encounter with an American doctor during a tour, which marked her first romantic relationship.
In a 2016 exclusive, she confided: “I don’t want to reveal the doctor’s name. It’s nothing serious at the moment. I will send him a picture of my weight loss – if he’s a good boy! I do enjoy male companionship.”
Additionally, Susan expressed her interest in adoption, humorously noting her cat’s potential jealousy: “I would love to adopt a child too but my cat might get jealous. I don’t want to see a cat and a baby fighting. It’s something I might do later.”
Reflecting on her brief romance, she added: “I did have a gentleman friend, a doctor. We went for lunch but I didn’t tell anyone. But if I had a man friend it would be purely platonic – I’ve been on my own too long now to get married.”
Susan Boyle also went through a family dispute with her brother Gerry, reportedly not speaking for more than two years amid claims that Gerry had threatened to end his life if Susan didn’t hand over £50,000. It’s believed that over time, Susan has given her brother about £400,000.
Thankfully, the siblings have reconciled since 2016. Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Susan expressed her relief: “I’m very happy, it’s a great relief and I’m looking to the future with a happy smile. Everything is hunky dory and fantastic.”
