An expert has explained why the Royal Family should fear Sarah Ferguson over the ongoing row about Prince Andrew.

The former couple live in the same property, the Grade II-listed Royal Lodge, near Windsor Castle in Berkshire.

The prince is still staying there despite King Charles III’s reported withdrawal of a £1million annual allowance granted by the late Queen.

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, has not performed royal duties since January 2022, when Queen Elizabeth II stripped her son of his royal and military titles.

The decision came after a civil lawsuit was filed against Prince Andrew by Virginia Giuffre.

Now, rumours are said to be circulating that the prince could be poised to write a tell-all book about his life. This could be similar to that released by Prince Harry, titled Spare.

However, royal expert and author Andrew Lownie has said that he does not believe that it is likely that Prince Andrew would break his silence.

He told the Mail Online: “There have long been rumours that Andrew might write a book, and various collaborators have been suggested, but I think it is very unlikely. Andrew is loyal to the institution and knows it would impact his daughters and their position within the Royal Family.”

He added: “Yes he knows a lot but I doubt he would ever talk. He’s told them all to Fergie and she’s the real threat which is why the family are keen to keep her on side.”

They are ninth and 11th in line to the throne, respectively.

The Mirror reports that Fergie herself has previously said that the most important thing to her after her split from Andrew was her relationship with the late Queen, who she has called “more mother than mother-in-law” and her “greatest mentor”.

In an interview with Harpers Bazaar in 2007, Sarah revealed that, after her divorce, Queen Elizabeth II asked her what she wanted. She replied: “Friendship, not money.”

Fergie recalled: “When I met with Her Majesty about it, she asked, ‘What do you require, Sarah?’ and I said, ‘Your friendship,’ which I think amazed her because everyone said I would demand a big settlement.

“But I wanted to be able to say, ‘Her Majesty is my friend’ — not fight her nor have lawyers saying, ‘Look, she is greedy.’ I left my marriage knowing I’d have to work.”
