LeBron James is known for being fiercely protective of his family, especially when it comes to his children. Despite his extraordinary career and achievements, one thing LeBron didn’t have growing up was a father figure.

Raised by his mother, Gloria James, LeBron received all the love and support she could give, but the absence of a father was something that likely had an impact. As a result, LeBron has always been determined to provide for his children what he never had-a stable, loving presence from both parents.

However, when ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith publicly questioned LeBron’s role as a father, it led to a heated confrontation between the two. The exchange came last week at the Crypto.com Arena, and it quickly became the center of attention.

Kendrick Perkins has sided with the James family

The controversy started when Stephen A. Smith made a comment about LeBron’s son, Bronny James, during an episode of First Take.

“I am pleading with LeBron James as a father, stop this. We all know that Bronny James is in the NBA because of his dad,” Smith said.

These remarks struck a nerve with LeBron, who reacted strongly when discussing the issue with former teammate Richard Jefferson.

“That’s the only thing I’m tripping. I don’t give a fu**. Once he talks about, ‘I’m pleading to you as a father,’ I can’t,” LeBron expressed.

This wasn’t the first time Stephen A. had commented on LeBron’s family dynamics. Over the years, Smith had suggested that LeBron’s influence played a role in getting Bronny into the NBA, which didn’t sit well with the Lakers superstar.

While critical commentary is a part of Stephen A. Smith’s job, many felt that his remarks crossed the line by bringing the James family’s personal matters into the public discussion.

Kendrick Perkins, a longtime friend of LeBron, also weighed in, expressing that he had never seen LeBron react so strongly.

“I’ve never seen Bron get out of character like that,” Perkins declared, before turning his attention to the pressure placed on Bronny.

“Let Bronny be,” he said.

Perkins emphasized that the 20-year-old player doesn’t deserve the overwhelming attention and scrutiny being placed on him, especially when he’s just starting his career.
