As many still mourn the death of Rich Homie Quan, the late-recording artist’s DJ blames his untimely passing on “disloyal fans.” The “Type of Way” hitmaker died of an accidental overdose on September 5. He was 34.
DJ Turnt, Quan’s longtime DJ, placed the responsibility on his fanbase. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Turnt expressed his frustration with how Rich Homie Quan was treated in the years leading up to his death, particularly after fans accused him of snitching on Young Thug, a claim he always denied.
“No one poisoned my brother,” Turnt wrote. “Please stop blaming Dre, his BM, his plug. Quan was hurting because of how y’all treated him, how y’all forgot about him. Everything he posted, y’all called him a rat, and bro didn’t tell on nobody. He was hurting because he still had a message he felt y’all didn’t appreciate.”
Turnt continued to stress how much Rich Homie Quan loved his family, especially his brother Andre. “If y’all want to blame someone, blame yourselves for turning your backs on him. All he wanted was to be heard again. It’s crazy because he told me this was the only way he would trend again, and I just hate it had to happen this soon.”
Despite his undeniable influence on Atlanta’s hip-hop scene, Rich Homie Quan has felt the weight of being forgotten by the very fans who once championed his rise. In DJ Turnt’s view, the harsh judgment and neglect of his fanbase exacerbated the pain that fans and the industry suffered as a result of the tragic passing of such a talented artist.
Rich Homie Quan’s estate released his first posthumous album over the weekend. The album features 35 new songs and guest appearances by 2Chainz, Skrilla Baby, Plies, and Lil Tjay.
