The rapper was involved in multiple problems with the law and legal disputes.

Rich Homie Quan had a net worth of $3.5 million at the time of his death.
The unexpected death of Rich Homie Quan shook the American rap scene to its foundations. The musician passed away on September 5 at 34, leaving behind an interesting musical legacy and a considerable fortune, derived from his success on stage.
Dequantes Devontay Lamar, the musician’s birth name, was born on October 4, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia. In his teens, Rich Homie Quan showed baseball talent, played for the Ronald McNair Sr. High School team, and even earned a scholarship to play for Fort Valley State University.
Lamar left college and baseball to pursue his artistic interests. However, fortune was not on his side. Although he got a job at an airport, he lost it soon after and began doing petty theft to earn income.
Quan’s illegal activities earned him a 15-month prison sentence. When he was finally released, he decided to get serious about the music business, where he slowly worked his way up to his first mainstream hit in 2013 with the single “Type of Way.”
Rich Homie Quan’s net worth
Specialized websites estimate Quan’s net worth at $3.5 million by his death. After “Type of Way” peaked at No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, Quan released “Still Goin In: Reloaded,” named the 10th best mixtape of 2018 by Rolling Stone magazine.
His collaboration with Young Thug on the Rich Gang Project, under Cash Mony Records, led to the 2014 hit “Lifestyle” and that same year, he released his acclaimed collaboration with Young Thug and Birdman, “Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1.”
Quan’s hits seemed to never end, and in 2015, he released his new mixtape “If You Ever Think I Will Stop Goin’ in Ask RR (Royal Rich),” spearheaded by the single “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” The latter reached number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Club Banger and People’s Champ Award at the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Quan’s legal problems
In 2017, Rich Homie Quan and four other individuals were arrested at a highway checkpoint in Louisville, Georgia, on charges of drug possession with intent to sell. Police said they found heroin, marijuana, weapons, and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

After being released, Quan released his debut album, “Rich as in Spirit,” in 2018 under the Motown Records label. The album debuted at number 32 on the US Billboard 200 and achieved modest success, thanks to the collaboration with other rappers such as Rick Ross. In January 2021, Quan released “Clusters,” a collaboration with Nard, and in 2022, he released the EP “Family & Mula,” which contained the single “Krazy.”
Police are still investigating the cause of the rapper’s death, but unofficial reports point to an overdose. The autopsy was performed on September 6, but the results will still take several weeks to be published.
