Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s purchase of a home in Portugal could be “to help out Jack and Eugenie”, a royal commentator has said.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly purchased a home in Portugal in a move labelled as the “oldest trick in the book” to possibly aid Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s business ventures, a royal commentator has claimed.

Lady Colin Campbell also called the timing of the purchase “convenient”, as news of the purchase was revealed during the King and Queen’s royal tour. She explained: “Charles and Camilla are in Australia and Samoa and we are speaking about Harry and Meghan, and Portugal. They are geniuses.”

Speaking on Dan Wootton’s YouTube channel, royal commentator, Lady Colin Campbell questioned the decision: “It’s the oldest trick in the book. Colin Tenant very successfully gave Princess Margaret land on Mustique and then actually built her a house, and that helped to make Mustique into what it became.

“This is a version of this. To help out Jack and Eugenie and get them some publicity.”

Avid socialite and friend of Princess Margaret, Colin Tenant, eventually made the island of Mustique in the Caribbean a byword for high-society.

It is reported Harry and Meghan’s home is in a resort located just an hour’s drive south of Lisbon on Portugal’s west coast, between Comporta and Melides, which has become a popular holiday destination for the rich, thanks to it being relatively untouched by tourism. Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, also own a home in Melides, just south of Lisbon.

The CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club is owned by multimillionaire property tycoon Mike Meldman. Eugenie’s husband, Jack, works in marketing, sales, and promotion for Mike’s Discovery Land Company, which specialises in building luxurious private golf and residential holiday communities across the globe.

The Duke of Sussex has always been close to his cousins, Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice, remaining in contact with them since he moved to the US and stepped down as a working royal in 2020.
