A shocking turn of events unfolded in downtown Memphis on March 22, 2025, when a targeted shooting left one man dead and another injured. Houston rapper Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane, was critically wounded, while his artist Sayso P was killed in what police are calling an isolated attack. New details have emerged suggesting the shooter stood over Sauce Walka, ready to deliver a fatal blow, only to spare him upon realizing he was not the intended target.
According to Brandon Rainwater, a music manager and former associate of the late rapper Mo3, the shooter had a clear mission: eliminate Sayso P. Rainwater shared this revelation during a live conversation with music executive Wack 100, claiming the assailant stood over Sauce Walka after shooting him in the leg but chose not to finish the job when he recognized the rapper. Instead, the focus shifted to Sayso P, who was fatally shot at the scene outside the Westin Hotel near the FedExForum.
The Memphis Police Department reported that the shooting occurred around 2:42 p.m. on the 100 block of George W. Lee Avenue. Witnesses described hearing three to five gunshots as multiple individuals in a white vehicle opened fire without exchanging words. Sayso P was pronounced dead on-site, while Sauce Walka was rushed to the hospital. His father, Albert Walker, later confirmed to KHOU 11 News that his son is expected to recover, stating,
“Had it not been for God, my son would’ve been dead.”

Adding a layer of intrigue, rumors circulating online and backed by Rainwater’s account suggest the attack stemmed from a financial dispute. Sources allege Sayso P had run off with $200,000, a claim echoed in a WorldStarHipHop video titled.
This alleged betrayal may have put a “green light” on Sayso P, a term indicating he was marked for death, as noted in an X post by user @KDotTOD.

Sauce Walka, a 34-year-old rapper known for founding The Sauce Factory (TSF), had been partying with Sayso P and fellow artist YTB Fatt just hours before the incident, flaunting stacks of cash on Instagram. This display, reported by AllHipHop, may have drawn unwanted attention, escalating tensions that led to the deadly encounter.
The incident has sent ripples through the hip-hop community, reigniting concerns about violence targeting artists, especially from Texas. Sauce Walka’s past legal troubles, including a 2009 guilty plea for deadly conduct, and TSF’s documented gang ties in court records, provide a complicated backdrop to the shooting.
