Payne, who died on October 16 after a fall from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, is being laid to rest at a church in the Home Counties.
Family and friends, including his former bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, attended the private ceremony.
Simon Cowell was seen attending the funeral
This emotional reunion marked the group’s first public appearance together since their final concert in 2015.
Other notable attendees included Simon Cowell, Cheryl Radio 2’s Scott Mills, and Marvin and Rochelle Humes. The mourners walked past floral displays of bowling pins and a ball, a touching nod to Payne’s well-known love of bowling.
The entrance to the church was beautifully decorated with candle lanterns and white roses placed among the surrounding shrubbery.
A source close to the family shared: “His family have gone to great lengths to put together the perfect service and give him the send-off he deserves. Liam may have been a global superstar, but to Geoff and Karen, he will always be their little boy. It is going to be an incredibly difficult day.”
Payne had been in Argentina in September to support former bandmate Niall Horan during a performance. He extended his stay to renew his visa for living in the U.S. but tragically passed away before returning home.
