All of One Direction’s studio albums are on track to re-enter the UK albums chart top 40 following the death of Liam Payne, the Official Charts Company said
One Direction’s studio albums are poised for a comeback in the UK albums chart top 40 following Liam Payne’s death.
Liam tragically fell to his death aged 31 last week after falling from the balcony of his third floor hotel room in Argentina. Respected news portal Infobae said materials extracted from the singer’s body in an autopsy following his death last Wednesday had “determined the presence of the class-A drug.” But it said police tests on a white powder found in his hotel room had so far proved “inconclusive”. It reported the result of a second test using chromatography, a powerful analytical separation technique, on that powder were pending.
Since the heartbreaking news, tributes have flooded in for the star, who rose to fame with the boy band on ITV’s The X Factor back in 2010. Currently, their 2012 hit album ‘Take Me Home’ is set to re-enter the charts at number 12, while ‘Midnight Memories’ from 2013 is close behind at number 13.
Not far off, 2015’s ‘Made In The AM’ is tracking towards number 15, and 2014’s ‘Four’ is looking to claim the number 20 spot. Their debut album from 2011, ‘Up All Night’, is also expected to make a return at number 33.

Additionally, several of the group’s singles are likely to reappear on the singles chart this week, with the ballad ‘Night Changes’ anticipated to reach number 13, according to the Official Charts Company. Payne’s solo efforts are also making waves, with three tracks predicted to enter the top 75; ‘For You’ with Rita Ora is sitting at 67, ‘Strip That Down’ featuring Quavo at 73, and his last release ‘Teardrops’ is set to debut at 66 on Friday.
Following the loss, Payne’s former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik shared a joint statement expressing they were “completely devastated” and will “terribly” miss their friend and fellow artist. In a statement, the mega-band said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.
The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam. – Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry.”
In other news, Kylie Minogue’s latest album ‘Tension II’ is predicted to secure the top spot on the UK charts this Friday, marking her 10th number one album. However, she faces stiff competition from Rag N’ Bone Man, whose recent LP ‘What Do You Believe In?’ is hot on her heels at number two. The rest of the top five albums chart includes Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short N’ Sweet’, Confidence Man’s ‘3AM (La La La)’, and Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’.
