Speculation emerged last weekend that the world’s richest man and Labour critic was considering handing over £78.8million to Reform.

Mr Musk has been a frequent critic of Sir Keir Starmer and supporter of Mr Farage’s insurgent party.

Pressed for the first time on the prospect, Mr Farage said: “Yes politically, he is a supporter of mine, he’s made no secret of that. I’ve never solicited a donation from him, and one has never been offered.”

He added: “Would I accept money given we’re up against two big parties that are heavily funded, while we scrape by on our membership fees, yes of course I would accept money.”

Last night conservative commentator Tim Montgomerie – a former aide to Boris Johnson – joined Reform.

In August, Musk likened Britain to the Soviet Union over its crackdown on rioters spreading lies online.

Musk doubled down after his spat with Starmer over the billionaire’s claim that the UK faces “civil war”.

Downing Street said there was “no justification” for Musk’s comments, sparking a war of words.
