Matt Dawson has revealed that his opinion on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was completely changed after watching their Netflix documentary – with one line standing out

Former England rugby ace Matt Dawson believes his views on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were seriously swayed after watching their Netflix docu-drama.

Mr Dawson isn’t one to get caught up in Royal chatter, but after sitting down to the series on the streaming giant, he found his perceptions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex evolving. The global audience was glued to their screens for the much-talked-about documentary.

In a candid chat back in December 2022, Dawson confessed that his initial views on Harry and Meghan took a turn post-streaming. Speaking to the Express, Dawson recalled having reservations: “In the first 10 minutes I was thinking, ‘Oh no, this is like a woe is me type doc’.”

But it only took one potent sentence from Meghan to completely reverse his stance, reports Aberdeen Live. She had said: “The past six years of my life, books are written about our story from people who I don’t know. Doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”.

Reflecting on that moment, Dawson said: “I just thought, do you know what, in their environment and where everyone is going to have a view of Harry, because he is a bit of an adopted son to everybody after what happened in the past, I sort of thought, ‘Ok, go with it’.

“We all want to know what they are like, so why don’t we just get to see what they are like? It is what it is, but at least it’s in their voice. We are obviously all interested in it and we are getting those little nuggets that we wouldn’t have known before, so it has definitely served its purpose. Let’s separate, you know, let’s not worry about the deal and what their life is now. We are interested and the nature of us and the Royal Family is that we want to know what is going on and we are getting told from the horse’s mouth, so let’s embrace it and take it on board.”
