A Macomb County Circuit Court jury deliberated for about 90 minutes on Wednesday before convicting a man of breaking into rapper Eminem’s Clinton Township home last August, the Macomb Daily reports. It was his second time.
The jury convicted Matthew Hughes, 32, of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking. Five years ago, Hughes also broke into Eminem’s home and was later convicted.
“People long for fame — they want fame,” Assistant Prosecutor Steven Fox told the jury, according to reporter Jameson Cook of the Macomb Daily. “But fame can put you in a bubble. That’s the life that he (Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem) has to live in. Why? Because of men like Matthew Hughes.”
Fox said Eminem, who testified in court on Wednesday, was sleeping at the time of the home invasion in a padlocked room in a secluded area of his house due to the prior incident.
